During the prelude to AVX - "Avengers X-Sanction", Cable is in the future at the Avengers mansion. He sees a bunch of things like a machine created by Magneto to take away a mutants power, Wolverines skeleton, also Gambits staff which has Stark tech upgraded in it, (Blaquesmith later uses it against Red Hulk).

These were designed as easter eggs for the things that will be happening in AVX.

That said, besides Gambit's fight with Cap, I gotta side with the Avengers half of the argument here. Makes more sense, especially considering how dark things have gotten in X-Men territory lately.

That was an alternate future. I think its safe to say the X-men arent going to be killed off in this event. It was meant to give Cable a purpose and set the stage for what he is fighting for

Once upon a time maybe. But at this point he's become such a cash cow that Marvel has given up on actually portraying the character... and instead just pimps him out for cash (as they do for Spider-Man and a number of other A-Listers).

It's a shame, but... I honestly HATE Wolverine right now.

Hmmm, interesting article. Doesn't bode well for Gambit, though, does it? Either he is going to get his @ss handed to him by Cap, who takes his bo staff, or he betrays the X Men and sides with the Avengers at some point and gets the Stark upgrade.

On the upside, if these are easter eggs, that means Gambit's role in AvX is probably bigger than we previously thought (for better or worse).

Any time my boy gets screen time is fine by me. Though if he is going to be beaten, I hope it isn't too soundly. He shouldn't be that easy to take down.

I mean, even if Cap bests him, why take it? It's just a staff. Nothing special. Coulda upgraded any old staff.

Maybe Gambit ultimately sides with Wolverine (who appears to have chosen the Avengers)?

It wouldn't be the first time Gambit played both sides: he's obviously not on the Avengers' side if he's fighting Cap, but switching sides at some point is not out of the question, unless the fight is a huge fakeout.

True. Classically Gambit's a character that'll do what he thinks has to be done, rather than what one particular faction or another tells him. He hasn't been put in that situation a lot lately, though.

That said, honestly Gambit's the type that'd make more sense allying himself with Cable/Hope rather than "forcing" her to do anything. More within his personality. But obviously Marvel wants a big civil war type battle, so you can't go that way.

He's over in the Astonishing X Men title now, and he has a great loft apartment in the Upper West Side in NYC instead of living at the school all the time. Cece is staying at his place for the time being because she was kicked out of hers by her landlord. She was teasing Gambit how he isn't happy unless someone is trying to kill him, and that runs from responsibility, especially when it involves students, then she see a photo he has of him and X-23 on the table, then changes the subject. It was another great Liu moment...

It was sweet that a cynical, wild card like Gambit has a soft spot for X 23 and really is looking out for her, much the same way he did for de-aged Storm back in the day.

It sounds more and more like he is going to have a larger role to play during and after AvX. I just don't know how strong the demand is for a Gambit ongoing. It will depend a lot on the creative team and price.
