I don't see whats so horrible about the costume and yet 6 years latter I'm still hearing how horrible it was.
The first picture they released of Routh as Superman was terrible but I've watched the film and the costume looks just fine. Not the greatest costume ever but certainly nothing to complain about. |

The costume was 100 times better than the guy in it.

But they're talking about how the cape looks in the got milk ad. It does look like a black triangle. But I don't think it truly detracts from the photo.

Yeah, in the ad, it looks kinda strange. I liked the Superman Returns suit, apart from the size of the \S/ and the shade of blue used. If there was to be a standalone JL franchise that costume would've looked great next the Arkham Batman suit.

Agreed. The only problem I had with Routh is his bad acting chops.

Yeah, that's what I don't get about all the "I wanted to see Routh back" people. He really looked like he just had no clue what he was doing in that movie. He was just so... blank. Some people will try and tell you it was subtlety, but if you think that was an example of good subtle acting, then you probably also think Channing Tatum deserves an Oscar for all his blank-faced performances.

It's a subjective thing, but I hate the Returns suit. A lot of the problems are related to Routh's physique and his structure (long torso, narrow shoulders), but the design choices greatly exacerbate those problems. That milk ad is a perfect example. He looks bottom heavy like a woman. You don't seen the iconic V-shape associated with a strong, well-built man like Superman. One of the issues is the cape attachment. Because it is narrow and connects at the neck, the overall shoulder/chest area seems smaller. Similarly, the low-rise trunks further elongate Routh's torso. The longer the torso, the narrower a guy looks. Also, the small chest symbol - makes the upper body look smaller. Overall, the suit just makes Superman look less masculine and powerful. SO I think there is good reason for people to hate the suit.

Don't forget the compressive suit material and a heavy rubber-plastic (shower curtain) cape.

Take the Cape off, remove the \S/, and Routh would have a legit shot at competing against Michael Phelps in the Olympic games. That's the problem with it. |

He was bad on Chuck He was terrible in Dylan Dog He was bad on a Fear itself episode His performances in bit roles haven't been good either. His best performance was in Superman Returns and that's probably because Singer is good at directing actors but that still is not a good performance in the slightest. I hate to take us back to 2006 and re-litigate things but I just do not understand how anybody likes him as an actor. I am so happy that he is gone. I'm not saying that Cavill is Deniro or anything but I thought he was 1000 percent better than Routh in the few things I've seen him in. Now I'm going to jump back into 2012... |

Anyway, yeah, Cavill is a much better actor. Though I'm kinda hoping Cold Light of Day gets swept under the rug because it really doesn't look very good. |

Both Cavill and Routh are pretty ****** actors. Routh was fine as Supes. So will Cavill.

I haven't seen many reviewers having problem with Routh's acting in SR reviews, if anything most critics were okay with his performance.
I do not find his acting as bad as many posters here seem to suggest, it was not going to win him any acting award, but for Superman, it was alright.

I don't think Cavil's a bad actor at all he was superb in the Tudors and I thought he was solid in Immortals.

I had no problem with Routh and I have no problem with Cavill's acting ability.

The part towards the end of SR, when Supes visits Jason's room where he is sleeping and says the line - "Son becomes the father.." is done very well by Routh (IMO.) I have a hard time imagining that even Chris Reeve could have done it better.
Now, just to ask those posters who just cannot give up their complaints against Routh as Superman, I have to ask this question- Could someone else in place of Routh done better (with all other elements remaining same.) for example could Tom Welling / Sam Worthington / Matthew Goode been a better Superman i place of Brandon Routh ? I think not. (IMO.)

This isn't the Cavill vs. Routh thread. This a thread to discuss ideas about the MOS marketing and the campaign itself.

![]() And I agree with LibidoLoca, this isn't a Routh/Cavill topic. In fact it would be nice to not bring up Routh at all (for his fans and non fans alike) in this forum. Past is the past. ![]() |

I think it's fine if we talk about SR's marketing campaign to dissect what worked and what didn't and to get a glimpse of what WB may do with MOS's.

It's sadly just a natural slope:
New logo comes out Reaction: better than old logo Old logo bad Old movie marketing bad Old movie suit bad Old movie actor bad Old movie dialogue and plot so bad no actor could pull it off... It shud really stop at step 4, but it is hard not to talk about how bad something was when what we are getting now seems so much better. |

finally WB has begun the marketing!
http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-...222100414.html with Yahoo making a bold title "Zack Snyder takes off Superman’s underwear in ‘Man of Steel" I guess WB & Snyder must be very proud to make the movie sounds like a porno. here comes the first sarcastic remark on the trunk-less costume. and >90% of the comments are negative.
