I'm less worried about whether the characters will be themselves, and more concerned about if they will be themselves and usually involved in a string of jokes about their personalities VS a few more dramatic elements.

And yeah, it was pretty silly to cover up The Chitauri like they did. Especially if they're just cannon fodder. Though I hope the Chitauri are given some sort of compelling, relevant background, and not just aliens Loki runs into whilst floating through space.

The one thing I don't want to see happening is Hawkeye suffering from Post-Crappy Film Characterization Syndrome, or PCFCS for short. That's what happened to a large extent to Daredevil, Elektra and Ghost Rider --- all very cool and very popular characters before their films came out, but after those films were poorly received (by most folks --- I'm not saying they're bad myself, but that's a different argument thread), it really put a dent into their comic-book cache as well.

Hawkeye has always been one of my favorite Avengers, and I'd hate to see him become regarded by the mainstream as a useless, forgettable character (or worse, a laughingstock). Please don't do that to Clint, Joss.

Ah well, all the more for you to look forward too! Whedon's dialogue and characterisation was great in Firefly and Serenity, so I had no doubt it would be here.

Yes. Sofar, the only thing the aliens from the trailer have in common with the Chitauri from the comics is the name.

Okay, I have to admit, the design of the gliders/spacecrafts is very similar. I pointed this out months ago.

But nevertheless, if there is not enough Chitauri background in the movie, they just could have called the aliens by any different name and it wouldn't make any difference at all.

BTW, isn't it interesting that some of the movie-related toys had the Skrulls as the enemies?

I'd say the the aliens really were the Skrulls at an early stage of the film project and were then changed to their ultimate version, the Chitauri.

So from what I am reading on Wiki about Chitauri is that they are basically the Ultimate version of the Skrulls? Never read any Ultimates so I find this a bit stupid, why not just use the Skrulls who fans at least would have got excited about finding out who they were.

Legally, they can't. Apparently Fox owns the rights to the Skrulls. Do I have that right, fellas?

I think we all need a few days of rest now to get over the surprise and shock that the aliens in the movie are not called "the Redacted".

Nah they only own the rights to Super Skrull, not the Skrulls as a whole.

I'm guessing they stripped out the shape-shifting element since they didn't want that for this movie and didn't want fans getting upset over it. The Chitauri, on the other hand, no one really cares as much about their translation. They probably also wanted to keep their options open with shapeshifting and shelved Skrulls for now.

No the Chitauri are "cousins" to the Skrull. one was insulted by a comment if I recall right.
Chitauri are more like the Dire Wraiths

Your guess is as good as mine.
And if it boiled down to some dispute with Fox over the name (a lot of people assume that Fox owned the rights to Skrulls since they were primarily part of FF lore), then there's still a dozen or so more popular and recognizable alien races Marvel Studios could've used. Pseudo-Chitauri Cannon Fodder are a cop-out, especially after all the build-up and mystery surrounding the identity of "Loki's Army."

Hopefully it gets pushed back to 2018, so there will be a three year gap between each Avengers film.

For those complaining the Marvel solo films being "smaller scale" in comparison to the Avengers could be a negative thing: The Dark Knight(who many, including myself, think is one of the top-tier comic book films) is EXTREMELY small scale in comparison to what can be accomplished in this genre, yet its phenomenal. One hero, in one city, really only dealing with one villain(albeit a ridiculously crazy one). TDK is a very intense, personal superhero film. Its not a Ben Hur type epic, or even something on the scale of a Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Cap 2, Thor 2 and so forth can easily be phenomenal films in a smaller scale.

I'm betting they will end up pushing it back. Hems has no probelms so far working back to back on movies so far. Evans if I recall right does, and RDJ is MY age and needs rest lol

I'm not an expert for the Ultimate universe, but wikipedia says that thing (Skrulls appearing that feel insulted when called Chitauri) only happened in an alternate timeline.
Sofar, no Skrulls appeared in the standard timeline of the Ultimate universe. And the Chitauri said that they are called by other names on various worlds, including the name "Skrull".

Ah, here it is info on THOR II

The "Thor" sequel is expected to feature a large cast of Aasgardians and creatures in the Norse mythology-set world.

Thor 2 is expected to double its cast of larger than life Aasgardians and mythical Norse creatures, making it one of the largest scale Marvel adventures to date, second only to The Avengers

Here's more

“[Thor 2 will] primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and how the new dynamic with his father is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds.”

On that last point, Feige promises the script by Don Payne “take Thor literally to other worlds.” Hit the jump for more on The Nine Worlds.

Honestly, as to more films -- I'm a lil' worried how you return to solo films after this. They feel so minuscule in comparison.

And now, I didn't feel like it put a period.
