Stegman's leaving after issue 6. This sucks. He was really bringing some needed attention to SS. Of course great books get cancelled when Marvel takes away half of what made the book great. It's like the equivalent of a network giving a crappy new time-slot to a new TV show. They don't let things gel.

While I'm sad to see Stegman go so soon, I'm sure any artist would JUMP at a chance to do one of Marvel's flagship books, Khoi Pham is pretty good with the pencils, as can be seen in recent issues of DareDevil... which is one of Marvel's hidden gems at the moment.

I really dislike when you have a great creative team on a book and one of them, usually the artist, leaves after only a few issues after tons of hype and acclaim. What a few great issues, though. Not too familiar with Khoi Pham but there's no way I would drop this book, it's too awesome with Yost on board at least. Also, Scarlet Spider will be in Minimum Carnage this fall.

Whosa what? Minimum Carnage? Bad enough they did a Maximum Clonage, but they now have to further sully a crossover like Maximum Carnage with a name like that?

What I've seen so far Pham's drawings are great, so the book will stay on a high level.
I just hope that the inks will also stay as great as before, with inker Tom Palmer they have a good man on the job. I'm not sure if the cover for #7 was inked by him or if is just some artistic extravagance, but IMO the cover has too much contrast and too few detail.

I think, it's like you said, artistic extravagance. I think the cover's awesome. It relies on one color, red; focusing on the "scarlet" aspect of the character obviously. Too much ink would have distracted from that. The interiors will probably be much different.

Honestly, I see a lot of similarities in Pham's work when compared to Stegman...so I don't think it will be too jarring of a change...

Scarlet Spider #5 is out today.
The story was okay, a little of a fille issue until Kraven arrives. Still it had some cool moments. The art by Neil Edwards had not the quality of Ryan Stegman. What bugs me most is that he got the costume wrong. There are multiple panels where you can see that he draw the back of the costume the same than the front. That is just wrong. He should have done a better job researching the design of the costume.

Overall I didn't like the new artist's style.
Where there was "folds" in clothes, with other artists, even Ramos, you can see that it was drawn with folds, these folds were added to a flat image. His crowds were very bland with no detail at all, just shapely blobby outlines... BRING BACK STEGRON!!! I mean... STEGMAN!!!

I actually liked Edwards, reminded me of Phil Jimenez.
Good issue, love how Yost is really bringing in unused/underused Marvel characters, like the assassins, and now the Watchdogs. Also, Kaine's reaction to realizing he is now "The Scarlet Spider" was pretty hilarious.

Fortunately Edwards was only a fill-in, next issue is Stegman one more time, after that Khoi Pham is taking over.

Well, after 6 issues, this series is blowing my socks off... definitely THE sleeper hit of the year... Yost had really written a well-connected storyline with some pretty sweet & tight continuity going back to the Clone Saga... and he doesn't miss a beat...
I was surprisingly pleased when I started reading Venom... and this book is even better, in my opinion... It's a great time to be a Spider-Fan...

@Themanofbat: I fully agree with you. Still love the new Scarlet Spider.
And I am also very pleased with the new artist Khoi Pham, here is a preview from Marvel for Issue #7: ![]() ![]() I think he nailed it, I even like the spider emblem on the chest better, more spider-like, less ant-like.

He changed the back...it used to be more red like the front. I think it looks better this way...just wish my "belt" idea was used as well.

This series is quickly becoming my favorite book to read. I love Kaine it in, how its not just a clone of ASM book, its its own style and characters. I think thats why i love it being in Houston and not in NY or LA, because it gives it it's own setting.

SS #7 was pretty good...
Can someone explain to me why Kaine does not have a Spider-Sense, but he has all of Peter's powers... inlcuding the ones from the Other?
