This thread is dedicated to Jonathan Liebesman, the director of Ninja Turtles.
As you can see, almost everyone has a 'quote' for their specific thread (except for poor April) so I felt his iconic line of "I'm Jonathan Liesbesman" was fitting. Anyway, discuss away:

Well....
Wrath of the Titans and Battle L.A were bad. So, yeah.... This movie is doomed. |

I didnt mind Battle LA. I'd watch it again. It was cliche ridden and had too much shaky cam but for some reason I liked it

Battle La was very close to actual military combat just exaggerated. It was far better than the bug zapping cg bore fest skyline.

I think Battle LA is not terrible but with a lot of Liesbesman's films, it didn't resonate with me. By the time I got out of the theater, I almost forgot all about it. That's an exaggeration of course but a lot of his films are..rentals at best.
He's competent and he seems like a smart dude, but he lacks a certain "je ne said quoin" to me make like him, even as an action film director.

Battle LA's trailer set my expectations too high. Anyone know if he cut that himself or was it some marketing team?

Well, the first one is viewed as a masterpiece in the sense that they were able to merge the lovable nature of the current 80s with the gritty comics. That was one of the first examples of how to do a comic book translation well.....take some bits and pieces from the more mainstream property regarding it while at the same time utilizing the classic templates from its origins.

The first TMNT movie is very close to masterpiece for me personally, either way it's a great movie.
Haven't seen a single Liebesman film so I will start catching up on him soon. Though I gotta say none of his films seems very intriguing to me. |
