Nope. I would put at least a minimal effort in trying to recoup some of the losses in DVD/Blu-Ray sales. Would it really have been so tough to hire a guy to make a really great DVD cover?

I would now and then, do this, check out oscar winners, critically appraised films of the year, and I'm still left baffled at how these movies are considered "great" or "masterpieces". Basically, I'll take John Carter any day over Citizen Kane, I couldn't even get through Kane because it was just that dreadful to me. But, this is just me. I see movies mostly as entertainment, and if I'm not entertained, it's crap. |

Oh, I agree with you there... there are some movies out there that are supposedly brilliant but if you bore me to tears, I'm not going to enjoy it. Citizen Kane is a bit of a polarizing film... I think it's a great movie and very well made, but it's more for the direction and Welles brilliant performance... the story itself I think kind of falls flat in the third act. And then of course, you have the "big reveal" at the end, which is a major letdown for some people (I personally thought it was okay, but I understand why so many people are disappointed by it).

Not if they lost over $200 million on it already, with DVD/blu-ray sales not likely to be any kind of savior here. They're not going to spend more money then they have to going forward.

Anyway, they are finally gonna be remaking this I heard, instead of a guy who has seen it all, and made a success of himself, they are going in the other direction, where 'Citizen Kane' will be this anonymous dude who spends too much time on the internet, who never posts his photo, so no-one knows what he looks like(but he will take the time to take the piss out other people's photos, haha), and it turns out at the end that Rosebud is Spoiler!!! Well that's not good....
Whoever is going to be in charge now wont let John Carter see the light of day.

It wasn't only the marketing. The movie just didn't resonate with people.

Pretty shrewd move considering the headlines for Avenger's success will still have his name on them.

It sounded like Ross resigned instead of fired from his position as VP of Disney, but I think even with The Avengers' success it still won't erase the fact that his company lost over 200 million on John Carter. He was also responsible for the approval of Mars Need Moms, another big-budgeted stinker, so it is a combination of many things and not just JC that landed him on the hot seat.

Avengers was in the works and was going to happen with or without Rich Ross really.
Deadline.com says Ross was fired so take it for what it's worth. However any time you report a $200 million loss to your shareholders that happened under your watch, you are in trouble.

I'll give this movie a C+.
I didn't really like it, the story was confusing and it just didn't appeal to me. It was like Prince of Persia 2.0.

Somebody was always going to get fired for this so this news isn't all that shocking. And expect Stanton to be in live action director jail for a few years because your first big budget live action movie tanking is not going to just go away.

John Carter was made during the time he was in charge and he could've easily stepped in and intervened. He didn't therefore i do think that he is responsible. I wouldn't put the blame on Stanton for this. It's not like someone screwed up and that mistake drags others ( who weren't involved) in it's wake.

i dont think its Stanton's fault. but its hist first movie and a guy got fired because they lost 200 millions on that movie. noone could expected this. its just wooow.
but its funny since Lasseter told Disney to buy the John Carter rights so that Stanton could direct his first movie. |

It appears JC may have already found a second life, as it's already on #1 bestseller spot chart in Amazon in bluray pre-order sales: http://www.thehdroom.com/news/John-C...Revealed/10511

I think for the DVD, Disney should change the title to John Q & claim Denzel Washington is in the picture.
