New Mutants Movie In The Works

Steve: I know you guys have New Mutants and a lot of characters in the X-Men universe. Obviously you guys are moving forward on an X-Men sequel, you’re moving forward on Wolverine, do you envision New Mutants or some of these other characters as franchises that the door can be open to? It does seem to me that the superhero genre is bigger than it’s ever been, and you guys have some of the crown jewels.

Rothman: (smiles) Yes.

When can fans expect an announcement on some of these other properties? Before Comic-Con, after Comic-Con, at Comic-Con?
Rothman: In the summer.

Are you talking to filmmakers right now?

Rothman: Let me just say this. All I have to say is, I agree with you in your assessment of the potential in a lot of these characters.

Doesnt really sound like he confirmed anything. While Im not opposed to a New Mutants movie and always wnating to see new characters, Id rather see X Force or another X Men movie focused on Adult characters. They already have an X team of teenagers and in training with First Class.

Me too. X-Force, X-Factor, something like that. It could be a way of continuing on past X3 without necessarily bringing in all of the X-Men from the first three movies.

Realistically, though, I think a New Mutants would focus on Colossus, Rogue, Iceman, Shadowcat, and Angel. I doubt it would have the New Mutants from the comics, similar to how First Class focused on characters other than the Original 5.

Could be cool. I wonder if they could get Patrick Stewart to cameo as the Professer? I'm looking forward to seeing Sunspot on film and if they will mention Karma's sexuality.

well last year Matthew Vaughn talked about using him and Ian Mckellan for a flashforward sequence for First class sequel.Stewart has always been open to playing Xavier for more films so I wouldn't doudt If a New Mutants film Is made he would be In It.Another question would be what would be lineup of new mutants students.

If they are gonna make a New Mutants movie, I don't want Professor X to be in their mentor. He was already the mentor of the X-Men. I want someone else.

As well as the eventual New Class, then – whenever that might be – Shuler Donner revealed that she has been cooking up plans for several other mutant films. The two she named? An X4, reuniting the X-Men and a big screen outing for The New Mutants. X4, she said, had yet to be pitched to the studio, however.

A New Mutants film could work if the studio starts sticking to the comic book rosters more closely.

If they keep mixing and matching mutants from all over the place, then it will be more difficult to do an accurate New Mutants or X-Factor or whoever.
