Not to mention what Zimmer borrows from other composers. Didn't he get sued for a piece he "used" in Gladiator? And everything I hear from him recently sounds just like Ennio Morricone (an homage no doubt). Every composer is guilty to one degree or another, but don't act like Horner's the only culprit. Studios/directors often hire these guys based on scores they've done in the past and expect something similar. Last edited by SoNicRaDiATioN; 04-29-2012 at 12:23 AM. |

Zimmer does things in the same scales and minors, sure - no composer doesn't. It's impossible to do so with over a hundred soundtracks.
Horner on the other hands reuses tunes and pieces, and percussion solos over and over.

The Lion King sounds similar at times to Stanley Myers Deer Hunter score. He was Zimmer's former partner. What does this mean? Rip-off? A tribute to his partner/mentor? At the end of the day the Lion King is a great score for many people and that's what's important. Leave the rest to the vultures. Or don't. And James Horner is far from a hack. He has written some great scores. Period. Last edited by SoNicRaDiATioN; 04-29-2012 at 12:47 AM. |

I mentioned once that the soundtrack could be pop/indie music heavy (like Watchmen or Kick-Ass) as a result of Webb's influence. I wasn't surprised when they portrayed it as such in the NYCC/WonderCon footage.
I also just realized that Spider-Man 2 had lots of rock/folk type songs thrown into the soundtrack. Spider-Man really lends himself to that kind of thing. However, I'd still want to see a creepy yet heroic theme similar to Elfman's. It was even drawn upon in Turn Off The Dark (great acrobatic show, sucky music)

I was looking up some spidey videos on youtube and a lot of them were using the score Elfman made for the last trilogy
It just got me thinking about how much this movies score needs to be iconic like the last one was. Hope Horner can do a great job! |

... There needs to be an iconic main theme like with Superman or even the '89 Batman.. no reason it can't happen. the composer just has to think big and epic.. release the song as a music video..

That sounds nothing like James Horner to me. Probably generic production house music like the Avengers website music was.

Horner can certainly deliver an iconic score, but the tone of the film will be a factor. Elfman's score was in step with Burton's operatic vision of Batman and Williams' Superman score was a great reflection of a character who is cosmic. I want this new score to reflect Spidey's world. Emotional, but more of a street feel. Less whimsical then Elfman's score.

His work on titanic was amazing, still love that album, his work on avatar not so much. I hope he pulls it out of the bag on this, i was kinda hoping Jablonsky (as Zimmer would be doing The Dark Knight Rises)

I really like Horner, and was made up to see him attached to the film. I hope he delivers a memorable spidey theme. Still waiting for that awesome live action sound.

Sony just tweeted a page from Horner's Amazing Spider-Man credit song. Anyone who can read music, can you tell us how it is?

haha, that's like a note of the piece. It's hardly worth making a recreation.

I'm a musician and I could recreate it, but as zackylu said, it's such a small portion so it's not worth the trouble.

I only paid attention to the first and last track b/c of spoilers. Looks like there's going to be a main title and end credits (hopefully it'll make the film unedited unlike Elfman's Spideman) too. I figure the album would be over 75 min since most of Horner's soundtracks tend to be that long from what I gather. Also makes sense it has 20 tracks. This is probably most of the score in the film. Curious of what cover art they'll use. Now hopefully Horner cooked up something great b/c he's usually hit or miss with me. I hope this score is mostly fresh and inspired and not typical of his rehashing of themes from many of his scores. Though it's probably inevitable. Still not sure about picking this up until I hear how it is in the film.

So I'm assuming that the tracklisting is in chronological order in regards to the film? Going off of that, I wonder if certain parts of the plot will be told non-linearly, especially considering the title for the 2nd track.

I skipped most of it, but I can infer that near the end
