As we've seen in every single SuperHero movie excluding the Reeve era the costume WILL change throughout every film. Its inevitable if only to sell new molds of action figures with every theatrical release… Will that make or break the new sequels? Will it make it seem less genuine to take the NOW revamped design and find some practical way to bring it back to a more classical look?

Will Man of Tempered Steel open with a huddle between Cavill and Morgan Freeman?

"I need something downstairs to hide skidmarks… any thoughts?"

"I've got these brown shorts… Plan on doing some KerPlunking Mr. Kent?"

The cape hangs too low. Shorten it's length by a good 4-5 inches

They shouldn't drastically change it but they should make minor changes to the costume.

I like the suit fine, just shorten the cape a few inches so that it does not drag on the ground.

1: add something that more closely resembles a belt
2: lighten the blue a bit
3: Is it STILL not possible in 20-frickin-13 to put a good \S/ on the cape?? We can create the Green Lantern Corps from scratch but we STILL can't put the \S/ on Superman's cape???!

Finally a great Superman suit. Do not change an inch. The cape couldn't be any better.

I think he should get some Kryptonian armor for a brief period of time for some reason, but for the most part, let it be. There's not much storyline justification for any changes.

I'm probably throw some more red and enhance the gold. Other then that, I think it's fine the way it is. Maybe shorten the cape just because filming wise it may suck to work with.

I don't think they should change the suit.

1) The suit he has, he has for a complex chain of reasons woven in to this mythos. It is effectively a version of the family armour, given to him by his father. Where would another suit come from? The only conceivable place would be Krypton. But that would mean more Kryptonians again, and even then, why would it look less like alien armour and more like lycra/spandex?

2) The suit we got looks pretty damn good to me. Any change it require involve colour adjustment rather than a redesign.

The only changes I would recommend would be to tweak the colors on the suit and make the blue pop a bit more. Everything else stays the same.

I think James Acheson and Michael Wilkinson outdid themselves with the reboot suit design. I think it's as impressive as Acheson's work on the Raimi Spider-Man films.

They can't change the suit without a good reason or explanation which they would be hard-pressed to find at this point in the cycle

I'm a defender of the trunks, but I just don't think you can bring them back without some kind of reason. Why does someone suddenly decide to don their briefs on the outside? It's fair enough if that always was the costume, but if the trunkless suit was to be modified in this way, audiences would have to contend with the inference that Superman took a long, hard look at himself in the mirror, before deciding that "truth, justice and the American way" were best symbolized by visible red underpants.

What is done cannot be undone, I fear.

that's like saying if i wore pants today i can nevwr wear shorts without an explanation. maybe inbetween movies he just decided he likes trunks. it's his costume. he can change if he wants. can't he? he wants to look heroic and if he wants trunks he can make that decision just like anybody else. people are acting like a change to superman's costume would be unrealistic. what about the fact that he flies or shoots lasers out of his eyes? that is way less realistic than trunks.

I didn't say anything about realism.

Your line of thought would be fine if this Superman assembled or designed his own costume. He didn't; he just found it. So why would he feel the need to slip a pair of red trunks over the top of it? I'm not saying it is impossible, but it would be an unusual decision.

i do think it would seem silly to show him making the decision, which is why they should skip over the explanation. i'm just saying he already wears a costume. he has a goal to inspire the human race. all public figures from rock stars, actors, to politicians craft an image and appearance which helps their cause. they even get plastic surgery. why not superman? if he's even slightly artistic or creative it's believable he could take an interest in his own costume and decide to make improvements. it's believable.

maybe he decides it looks better with trunks and a belt instead of those red stripes on the legs. but don't show him looking in a mirror trying on red underwear. that will look stupid in the movie. as an audience we can just make the assumption that he changed it. they don't have to show it. i really don't think audience members will be confused by adjustments to superman's cosrume any more than the adjustments to most superhero costumes.
the only way you show the explanation is if that explanation will have entwrtainment value or storyvalue. otherwise skip over it.
