When asked who would be the best choice to portray Nixon someone mistakenly heard " last choice " and mentioned Cusack. Of course he won't. Also John Ham will never play Batman , Superman , or Punisher. Not saying he's a bad actor though. I just think he's too old for the first two and above the last one. Amen, brother. I've said before I hope Hamm never plays a superhero, just cuz I'm sick of fanboys clamoring for it.

I think The Avengers is the worst movie in the MCU. Also, the only one I actually disliked.

Entirely agreed. Not gonna be an unpopular opinion for long though.

I enjoyed Iron Man 2, but that was my least favorite until Avengers. I'm just REALLY not a fan of Joss Whedon's writing. All of the actors did a great job with what they had though.
I'd rank it: 6. The Avengers 5. Iron Man 2 4. Thor 3. Iron Man 2. The Incredible Hulk 1. Captain America: The First Avenger But like I said the review thread, no big deal. I'm sure I'll love Iron Man 3, Thor 2, and Captain America 2.

Don't get me wrong, I did in fact enjoy IM2, I just think it's one of the weakest out of the bunch. I also defend it when people say it was only an advertisement for the Avengers.

For years my favorite movie was indiana jones and the raiders of the lost ark. It just got dethroned by avengers. Seriously epic in every way.

I find Cap. America to be the one I enjoy the least, but I'd say TIH was probably the worst. However, I love them all

The Avengers was fun but it wasn't all that; not the best comic book movie, not even the best super hero movie. Based on all the reviews I'm seeing and fan hype, I'm pretty sure this is unpopular. I just don't get the hype; it really IS just another action/comedy movie. Which isn't bad, but unless a movie has something in it's story that just connects with me, I can't rave about it. The Avengers had good action, and we love the characters, but it was a very basic story at the end of the day.

Most great movies are basic stories; just done amazingly well like The Avengers.

The Avengers had every right to be just a fun movie. I criticized Captain America for this, but it's different. The Avengers is the first of its kind and all I ever wanted out of it was to be a super fun superhero movie. Now that it's out there and the initial "Oh my God, it's really happening" effect has worn off, save the real dramatic stuff for the sequel.

Avengers did have layers. There is a difference between plot and story. The plot is simple, like all these films. Bad guy wants to win, good guys have to stop him.
But the story? The story is where the depth is. The depth comes from the characters. How these individuals work through their own problems and become a team. The characterisation was just really good. So many things that can be missed on the first watch, but picked up on in repeat viewings. You know Stark's roll call to Loki? Did you notice he didn't mention himself? That's because Stark has now realised it isn't all about him. He isn't THE man. The film was full of little moments like that. Also, there is compelling things in the story. Loki's rant in Germany for example. Do humans really want freedom? Or would we prefer the comfort of being ruled? What is easier? Being a shepard, or a sheep? Would the world be more peaceful if it was united under a single banner, a single ruler? The Tesseract wasn't just a plot device, it was a metaphor. What would happen if say, we discovered some new fossil fuel on Mars that was practically unlimited? Would it be used for the benefit of mankind? As a warm light for us to bask in? Or would the "powers that be" use it for more nefarious means? Like what SHIELD did? See the idea that Avengers is just a mindless action movie, albeit well written, is a fallacy. There is layers there. It's just that they are not bashed around our heads (like some other cbm franchise wink wink) and all the other stuff is obviously more entertaining. All that stuff i just mentioned is certainly intended by Whedon's script. But, who really gives a **** about global energy crisis metaphors when Thor and Hulk are duking it out? When Captain America is issuing orders to his fellow Avengers? Just bask in the ****ing glory that this film is. The sign of a great movie is one where you can pick up on stuff with repeat viewings. Avengers is certainly one of those movies. |

Cool
Such different films and I loved them both, for different reasons. One of them had a much better villain though. (I'll let you guess which one )Ok, back on track: I can't wait to watch "The Amazing Spider-Man." From what I've seen so far it really looks much better than the previous films.

I loved the Avengers (absoulutely epic), but I think the X-Men (X2) still reign supreme as Marvel's super-team on film. |

I was excited for The Amazing Spider-Man. Reboot, Garfield, Lizard? Those sounded great, but seeing the second trailer a third time, I'm not thhat enthused anymore. At this point, I think great action in a Spider-Man movie is expected because this is the fourth crack at it and it's been ten years since the first. I think it looks too dark for the first of a new Spidey series.
