Jack White's debut solo effort is being released in a few days. The whole album is currently streaming for free on itunes. Check it out.
Here's videos for the first two released singles... SIXTEEN SALTINES LOVE INTERRUPTION Overall, i think it's a great album. There are some real jams on it. Particularly I'm Shakin, Sixteen Saltines, Freedom At 21, Weep Themselves To Sleep. He covers a lot of ground on the album, it has a very mish-mashed White Album feel to it, and it totally works. |

I haven't read it yet, but remembered there was an interview with him in last Saturday's Guardian. so, here is the online version:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2012...ct-blunderbuss I have never owned any of his various bands albums, but I always like to read up on what the real musicians of the world are up to. ![]() and y'know, I didn't like it much at first, but I really quite like the Bond tune he knocked out, and of course, the WS stuff I have heard on the radio has always been good. A friend made me up a various tape one time and included a few of their tunes, there was one that started off about a squirrel or something, I liked that one. haha, think it was a squirrel anyway, haven't heard it for a few years. Anyway, like my guitar skills, my knowledge is limited on his work. haha |

when problems overwhelm us and sadness smothers us where do we find the will and the courage to continue? well, the answer may come in the caring voice of a friend a chance encounter with a book or from a personal faith for janet help came from her faith but it also came from a squirrel shortly after her divource janet lost her father then she lost her job she had mounting money problems but janet not only survived she worked her way out of dispondencey and now she says life is good again how could this happen? she told me that late one autumn day when she was at her lowest she watched a squirrle storing up nuts for the winter one at a time he would take them to the nest and she thought if that squirrel can take care of himself with the harsh winter coming on so can I once I broke my problems into small pieces I was able to carry them just like those acorns one at a time |

Jack is an acquired taste. Sometimes he is incredible, yet other times he is really out in left field. I enjoy most of his stuff, but it took awhile for some of it to grow on me... |

The one thing that always strikes me about him, is his actual music is always very simple and almost sophomoric. It's all catchy as hell, don't get me wrong, but I kinda think is he to music what Roger Corman or John Carpenter were to filmmaking.

i love roger corman movies and john carpenter, but their films are cheap thrills. and while that would be right at home in rock and roll, i dont think thats what jack's music is. but for as much simple music jack has, he has a technical side too. this album is far more musical than his previous work. he covers a pretty wide spectrum of sound and music on this album. |

'course, part of me does wish that they would give him the reigns to another Halloween film, as the treatment he has teased sounds promising, even though I will not hold my breath. Corman is a reliable source of sleaze and b-film goodness. Jack Black has been hit or miss, film wise. His music has been more consistent, though. Cheesy and sophomoric, as one remarked, but very catchy. |

here are some live performances. jack has been traveling with two backing bands. one all female, one all male. he decides the morning of each show which band he wants to use.
SIXTEEN SALTINES FREEDOM AT 21 the drummers in these bands are totally killing it. i cant wait to see this live. |

Both Corman and Carpenter were known for making fun, enjoyable films. But with rather low - even comically so - production values. Essentially, they made movies without a lot of the more skilled technical and artistic qualities that normally define a good movie as a good movie; artistic cinematography, lavish set design, etc. White is kind of the same way, IMO; if you break down the music he actually writes, it's extremely simple. There's little technical, academic skill in it. Yet despite that, he creates extremely enjoyable and captivating music. Generally.

Jack gets two more thumbs up for playing with the former keyboardist from one of my favorite bands.
Album is really great, so far, not a bad track. Listening to "I'm shakin". Makes me want to dance. Last edited by darkseid26; 04-24-2012 at 10:10 PM. |

I am listening to it right now, and it does have a very early White Stripes feel to it.

Fantastic album, and amazing live show. I might be a mark, but this man can literally do no wrong.

Cant believe I just saw this thread.
Blunderbuss is an incredible album and I feel like Jacks next solo album is a grammy waiting to happen.
