It's a question of time. More characters means less development for each individual character. Or, time spent on developing a new character is time that could have instead been spent on an already existing one that the audience has developed an attachment with.

JLU did a great job developing waaay more characters so I don't see how it will be a problem here. The Question, Huntress, Green Arrow, and Black Canary were all still hits. The original JL still had their time to shine (though Flash and Martian Manhunter took a back seat) while new characters like Supergirl, Captain Atom, and the previously mentioned new characters had time to be developed.

Then again JLU did such great jobs with characters when they even had ONE appearance that it was sufficient. Maybe people just don't have as much faith in this show to pull that off.

I disagree. JLU actually had fewer new main characters than people think. Most, like you said, appeared once or twice and/or effectively served as background characters and weren't fleshed out. Yes, a number of them made memorable impressions out of their one or two appearances (mostly because we recognise said characters and are familiar with them). However, that's effective character establishment, not character development.

Has anyone seen the new bios Cartoon Network put up? Apparently Suberboys aging problem is addressed.

Looks like Adam Strange gets all geared up and we meet Alanna and Sardeth, I assume. But I could be wrong. I've never cared for Adam Strange, but I don't know much about him and presume he's yet another space explorer type guy. Because DC doesn't have enough aliens or dudes involved with space.

More Superboy, more Megan. I'm sure it will be fine, but I'm hardly eagerly anticipating it.

I do like Adam Strange but I'm really looking forward to some things being cleared up with Superboy and Ms. Martian. I hope they'll shed some light on what happened to their relationship. Also some Beast Boy development will be nice since he's so closely related to Ms. Martian. Cartoon Network's bios did say they have kind of a sibling bond.

I agree with you. Based on the released episode summaries I'm far more excited for the episodes: "Alienation", "Salvage", and "Bloodlines". While I still think that "Earthlings" and "Beneath" will be at least okay, their plotlines don't sound like they'd be my favorites, but I could be wrong.

The trailer that showed Mammoth, Icicle Jr., Devastation, and Shimmer looked like footage from the first batch of episodes, especially since some of it was from the premiere and includes scenes on Rann from episode 2. My guess is that Earth's villains start making their comeback in episode 3 or so.

I think Greg Weisman said this episode had the least amount of voice actors used for an episode in Season 2. It's around 4, I think.

The less said about that relationship, the better for me. I'm glad it's in the past and it's not looking like any other big relationships will swallow up the whole show anymore.

See, for me it would seem like a waste if they spent an entire season on these characters and their relationship, putting them on the frontline of everything (and in the case of Superboy every episode) and then have their relationship shrugged off. Even if it's never mentioned again I'd really like to know what brought the series' premiere couple to a screeching halt. There's just been too much put into these two characters to practically pretend the relationship never happened.

I agree, it'd be a narrative disaster to abandon the story completely. But I'm hoping they'll minimize the extent to which it's showcased, at least. Just let us know what happened in a flashback or through other characters' dialogue or something and I'll be fine with it.

The show basically is starting fresh for kids.
I do agree the time jump came too soon. Maybe after season 2 it would have been better. Gives us time to get to know the team.

Actually "Earthlings" has 6 VAs, not 4. But yeah, it has the least VA's of the season.

It may be worth recalling that Shimmer, Mammoth, and Icicle Jr. spent the most time first season interacting with Nightwing, Superboy, and Miss Martian. More of Season 2 catering to it's strength.

But, yes, other episodes do interest me more. It happens.

That certainly is. In fact, only 6 credited VA's is pretty light for most episodes of animated shows after the FILMATION era ended in the 80's. Especially for a comic book show.

Looks like someone has embraced their white martian side a little to much...guess thats why Conner broke up with M'gann. And nice to see a brief flashback of BeastBoys cause to probably become Beastboy with Queen Bee killing his mother. Also nice to see the monkey look is just for looks and he can still revert to his normal human looking form.

Very good episode. I'm willing to bet the "She left me no choice" action that MM did was in regards to one of the missing members from last season.
