Default How would you do it! - DC Edition - ŠAnubis

Okay, I had some ideas for various DC stories and I was going to make a thread, but his is obviously better, so I'm stealing it.

To reference:

"Here's the skinny. Pick an event, a storyarc, etc, and "fix" it. Didn't like the way Civil War went down? What would you have done? Feel this character could be more awesome? Well, inquiring minds wanna know Mr. I-know-better-than-douchey-established-writers-pants.

Plus, if you have any ideas. Stuff you feel would be kinda awesome to add to the (DC) Universe or whatever, hey, knock yourself out. This is the place to put it down for all to see......and judge."

Okay, here's mine...

A Wonder Woman reboot/reinvisioning:

* Have all of her World War II adventures be in continuity. I feel as though Wonder Woman's introduction during and involvement in WW2 is an integral part of the character, and she suffers when that aspects is removed.

* Due to her WW2 adventures being in continuity, WW would have to be, well, very old. But considering she's part of a race of immortals, I think this would add a very interesting dynamic to the character. Wonder Woman would have literally decades more experience than most heroes and this would both give her a different perspective on the world, and make her a very esteem and imposing force - even to people like Superman or Batman.

* Her status quo should be more or less what it was during Rucka's run - her being the ambassador to Themyscira. Have the socio-political conflicts between the US and Themyscira be a large part of her world.

* Structure her stories in the same vein of Brubaker's Captain America run - with consistent flashbacks and tie ins to her history, this would allow for stories of WW in all the various decades of the 20th century to be told.

* Through those flashbacks give WW a very defined characterization and character progression. In her early days in our world, she should be very brash and impetuous - similar to how Thor was in his live action movie - then, as the decades wear on, have her slowly settle down and develop a calmer, more tempered personality.

* Have Wonder Woman, culturally, exist on the fringes of our society. Have her embrace all of the alternative culture of our modern world, and through that inject the sexuality and kink that existed in the original comics. This would also make for a good constant with her public life as an ambassador - she's not the perfectly measured and moderated person that all of our politicians are.

* Have her be a bit of an activist. Not in an "I support Al Franken" kind of way, but similar to how Morrison's Superman is in Action Comics; someone who will always stand up for what they believe is right, even if it's not socially acceptable or approved of.

I'd get rid of every story about Wonder Woman and the Amazons after Rucka left the book. And instead I'd just let him stay as writer of Wonder Woman for as long as he liked and do whatever he wanted with all of the characters

No Superman of Earth 2, Alex Luthor or Superboy Prime in Infinite Crisis. The villains would be the Society and Brother Eye none of that tedious 'everything was better on my earth!' garbage

In fact no Superboy Prime at all he can gtfo

Secret Six would have an ongoing again. And Scandal Savage would get her own mini series as well as starring in Secret Six

Cookin' with Ragdoll as a back up feature. It would be fabulously unsettling

Final Crisis and Countdown would never have happened. I wouldn't let Jack Kirby's creations be killed off in such a dumb way

Mary Marvel is adorable and would remain that way. None of this Evil Mary Marvel boo' ****

Cass, Steph and Barbara would be starring in a comic book called Batgirls

And every single comic book, mini series and event would have lots of added lgbt characters in the main cast kicking lots of ass and being wonderful

I would read your Wonder Woman comic book

I dig your idea of how to get her golden age stories in continuity. I don't get why DC haven't done that already instead of using time travel or Hippolyta

The Amazons are immortals. If they want to make Wonder Woman's forties adventures canon just say she's been around since then

It's not complicated

I wish that someone would actually do this with the character

With your knowledge base, that's actually quite a compliment. Thanks.

Oh! I forgot one more thing:

* I'd also explore the effects that the Gods and the human world have on each other. I loved the concept that Athena sends WW to help America because she wants to usurp Ares' power base. I'd want a small, ongoing subplot to really expand on the idea that the Gods' are kind of bound to the events of man, but how man is also often manipulated or controlled by the Gods. I think it would also play into the larger idea of circular dominance and submission inherent in the WW mythos and really create a nice analogy to WW's own personal struggles.

COIE/Post Crisis DCU fix:

I'd open with a series of scenes of the darkest moments in DC over the last 30 years or so, the mass murders of Crisis, the Post-Crisis murder "Superman"'s execution of the PZ villains, the butcherings of Zero Hour, Doomsday, Identity Crisis, Infinite Crisis, Flashpoint, etc...then I would have the Earth-One Superman wake up from the nightmare, his last adventure being a JLA case from JLA 182 vs Felix Faust.

At the next JLA meeting in the satellite, Superman would mention these nightmares, and he would find that all the other JLA members had them as well...Flash has dreams of him dying over and over, Batman had dreams of his back being shattered, Joker killing Robin, paralyzing Batgirl, etc...eventually they would contact the JSA, the Legion, The Marvel Family, the former Titans members, etc, leading to a big cosmic series involving Spectre, Phantom Stranger, Shazam, and other forces that would reveal that the Multiverse heroes were having visions from is a "Pocket Multiverse" that was created by the Time Trapper, a duplicate of the True Multiverse with the exception being that there was but one Oa in this Multiverse (COIE #8 stated that there was but one Oa, the Oa of the Earth-One universe, but prior stories with doppelgangers of Hal Jordan and slight variants of Earth-One contradict this. Eventually all of the heroes from the classic Multiverse would meet their Post-Crisis counterparts, and the real threat would be discovered: that by manipulating Krona into creating the Pocket Multiverse and by causing the Anti-Monitor to exist, Time Trapper had caused the Pocket Multiverse to be unstable, ever changing, never being settled, and it would eventually destroy itself-and take the True Multiverse with it. In the True Multiverse, the Earths and Universes had developed naturally, but in the Pocket Multiverse, Krona's interference at the beginning of time had caused the Earths to split. A team of the most brilliant scientists including Brainiac 5, Terry Sloane (of Earth-Two), Michael Holt (of the Post Crisis Earth), Alexei and Lex Luthor, etc, invent a counteragent that can be injected into the matter at the beginning of time in the Pocket Multiverse that will allow those Earths to duplicate themselves in a more stable manner, keeping them from changing and allowing them all to exist. So the Post-Crisis Earth would be one Earth- the Post-Zero Hour Earth would be another, etc, up to and including the Post-Flashpoint DCnU.

The end result would be a DC Multiverse where every character and every story in canonical somewhere, somehow. I'd give the Pre-Crisis characters a few books, including allowing Roy Thomas to finish All-Star Squadron on Earth-Two and I'd make sure the Earth-One Superman had a book. I'd also make the Legion book continued from the Pre-Crisis history and have them as the Legion of Earth-One. I'd keep the Lee/Johns Justice League series as it is and I'd have a JLA book on Earth-One starting with number 262. It would mostly be the classic JLA with Wally replacing Barry, who would go to live in the future with Iris after Flash #350.

I'd also have a JSA series sat on Earth-Two in the present in All-Star Comics starting with issue 75.

The rest of the line would be the Post-Flashpoint DCnU series, but any series from any Earth would certainly be a possibility.

Oh, and Sensation Comics would be brought back, most likely on the DCnU Earth, as a Wonder Woman team-up title.

I'm just feeling sad right now that this isn't what DC are doing with the character. It sounds so much better than anything DC have done with Wonder Woman in the last few years

I wish some writer at DC would do this with Wonder Woman

With the current timeline, it wouldn't fit cuz Superheroes either didn't exist before Supes showed up or they were members of a clandestine organization I like to call Boos**t Stormwatch knockoffs featuring Douchey Martian Manhunter.

DC Cinematic Universe

Man of Steel- Superman is the first superhero. Seeing him changes things, and draws power away from the "powerful" men like... say, Lex Luthor. Luthor tries to "expose" Superman for "the Truth". This leads to the devolution of Luthor. and a major battle with Metallo. Included is a post credit screen. a scene of Superman flying that is suddenly paused, rewinded and freeze-framed. Zoom out to see... Batman watching.

Wonder Woman: on Paradise Isle the Amazons live without men. they are peaceful warriors, content to live out their lives on the island... except for the princess, Diana. When a man washes up on their shores, she is so curious about the outside world she tolerates him, and begs her mother permission to take him back to the outside world. For such a dangerous journey she is given sacred armaments. She makes a splash in Man's world, in such a way that she becomes a celebrity. At the end, she is at a major party when someone tries to introduce her to the country's most eligible bachelor, she just has to meet... Bruce Wayne (ends there).

The Flash: angst begone! This is the Flash, the one superhero who can keep up with it all. However this new speedster has a major problem: Supervillains, there are too damn many. He's the fastest man on earth, but can he keep up with a city of supervillains? At the end of the movie, when all is said and done a black booted figure walks through the debris, a black glove picks up a piece of debris/ villain technology. It's brought to the face of batman.

Man of Steel 2 - A new villain is in town, the Main Man is stomping around looking for someone named "Kalibak". Batman shows up at the end to tell Superman that there is a reason for all the supervillains, a reason called... Darkseid.

vignettes on all DVD's: Green Lantern, John Stewart. without genuinely rebooting. We have a Lantern killed on Earth in Iraq. a company of Marines placed nearby approach, see the fight going on nearly all retreat, except John. He is given the ring as the Lantern dies. we also get to see him train on Oa and we see him doing some fights in space and confronting Apokalyptan aggression.

Justice League 1: Darkseid

I like the idea of Batman being the Coulson of the JLA series, tying it all together.

I was thinking of him being more the Nick Fury (all knowing no powers, still kicking all kids of ass and taking names) but also the only one who puts it all together. And here's the batman I'm thinking about... Clooney. Just the actor, not the whole Shumaker package. The idea is Batman has been doing this a while, but successfully remained in "urban myth" mode. his movie comes after Justice League.

John Stewart is the "Coulson" with the short vignettes to prepare him for the movie without launching yet another reboot or making a sequel. If people are willing to let it be connected, great, if not, ignore it.

But my question is this,
Since New 52 has rebooted several characters,
Should Donna Troy be rebooted as a Hercules/Thor type God sent to Earth type of thing? Should she be a god like Thor among men in the Teen Titans?
So she would be a powerhouse like Thor and Hercules and have a mythical background, but work with mortals like Robin and the others?

I didn'ty read him so perhaps, I meant, instead of being super strong and fast four an hour because of a drug, should he be a guy who can travel back and forth in time? More time related like Rip Hunter and Booster Gold than a street fighter like Captain America or Batman?

Basically, how I would do the Bat Franchise:

*I’d bring back the Oval to represent a general return to a more superhero oriented Batman, not one so rooted in Frank Miller, and more rooted in Grant Morrison or 70’s Batman. Bruce Wayne as a character needs to stay a bit more human, not a one dimensional dick. Bruce Wayne would pretty much be the Don Draper/James Bond of the DCU.

*I’d cut down Bruce Wayne’s appearances to Four Books: Batman, Detective Comics, The Brave and The Bold, and Justice League

*The Batman Book would be the flagship title of the Batman line. Whoever is writing this book is pretty much the showrunner for the books. It’d be a mix of superheroism and Detective work. It’d be like BTAS in comic form, basically. I would try to bring back many of the supporting characters like Bullock, Vicki Vale, etc. Batbooks tend to feel limited to showing only masked people and cops. Common Gotham folk should play a consistent role. We should know what the freaking mayor looks like too.

*Detective Comics would be the book for fans who want “Dark, Gritty” Batman. I’d have it set in the past so that fans of the YO inspired outfit can have a book where Batman has the non oval Batsymbol.

*The Brave and the Bold book would pretty much be a serious version of the cartoon mixed with Batman Inc, except with DCU heroes instead of Bat operatives. This book is flat out superheroic and humorous, and not afraid to put Batman in bizarre situations.

*Nightwing would be put into the DCU line of books, and I’d have the character relocate to NYC. I think time away from the Batfamily, as well as a high profile creative team could help Dick reach his potential again. He should not be treated like a rookie, he should be treated similarly to how Daredevil is treated in the Marvel Universe. And his book should feature all aspects of the DCU due to his connections.

*I would try to fix the amount of damage done to the character of Talia Al Ghul, which has now reached the movies. She was designed to be an ideal woman for Bruce, and I would go back to that idea. I’d reintroduce Nyssa torturing Talia in order to explain Talia’s current insanity, and would retcon some modern appearances from the character. Since Bruce and Selina’s relationship was explored more in the past decade, I would do the same with Bruce and Talia. I’d like to reintroduce the idea that both women hold a place in Batman’s life, instead of one getting preference over the other.

*I would make Penguin and Riddler consistent threats again. Riddler can represent old school comic villainy, but should still be treated with respect.

*I’d retcon Snyder’s Mr. Freeze and go back to the BTAS version.

*Stephanie Brown and Cassie Cain would star in a book together. Babs stays a Batgirl, however.

*I would move Birds of Prey to the DCU line as well, with the lineup of Huntress, Black Canary, and Babs Batgirl in a behind the scenes role.

*Jason Todd would either be killed off again or he becomes the DCU’s version of the Punisher.

So my next question. Should DC's New 52 (since JLI is canceled) use Booster Gold in a Time Travel comic that also features Rip Hunter and the Android Hourman (Hourman reintroduced as more of a time traveling character than a vigilante?)?

And what does everyone think of my idea for the New 52's Donna Troy? Being a demi god sent to Earth like Marvel's Thor or Hercules? She could be a Titan from Greek Mythology sent to Earth to live as a "Mortal" but still retains all her Titan powers like Thor does his powers. It would make her different from Wonder Woman and was established in DC comics back in the 90s
