I can see it.
About those climbing images being a coincidence or not, it’s more about the image itself, IMO. This action can easily be transplanted onto Bruce and still be a visual reference. Thematically as well, given he’s trying to escape from somewhere. And who knows, perhaps TDKR Bane has climbed the pit at some point and we see him do it?

The part in BB where Batman interrogates Flass by hanging him upside down was done in Long Halloween To one of the Falcone's I think

Not to be OT, but I the scene in TDK where Joker beats Batman with a steel bar must have been inspired by a Death in the Family, where Joker beats Robin with a steel bar.
Plus, one of the camera angles is the same as the panel |

It was done to Flass in the comics. I can't remember what comic it was though.

I can't wait to see all the different shots, storypoints, and lines that Nolan has done straight adaptations of in TDKR just for us fanboys. He always does such good stuff.

Gotham actually looks surprisingly modern in that panel.

Exactly. Remember when people were complaining about Gotham not looking "gothic" and "fantastical" enough? (still happens a bit) I was wondering if they had picked up a Batman comic in the last 30 or so years.
These are some really great comparisons guys.

Gotham is very rarely depicted as gothic. It's usually just a gargoyle here or there, or a cathedral, amongst an otherwise modern style city (in which you can usually find those two things anyway).

Which was found in TSSM and even in Spider-Man 3....so I suppose those two were gothic as well, lol.

Remember 'Bruce'? That was the nickname Spidey gave that gargoyle he sometimes talks to right? Definitely a Batman nod. Haha.

This reminds me of the aftermath of the explosion that injured Harvey
Except that Batman wasnt holding Dent while standing on the debris

I wouldn't be surprised if they drew on this when writing Harvey's story for TDK. Bruce was looking for a successor in a way.

As far as story goes for TDKR... there's obviously influence from No Man's Land, Knightfall, and The Dark Knight Returns. But I also see a bit of influence in both TDK & TDKR from Dark Victory (which makes sense, seeing that DV is the follow-up to The Long Halloween which was a major influence for BB).
The only reason I say that is because the plot of Dark Victory is "Once a town controlled by organized crime, Gotham City suddenly finds itself being run by lawless freaks. Witnessing his city's dark evolution, the Dark Knight completes his transformation into the city's greatest defender." That could pretty much be a basic summary of the plots for TDK & TDKR.

I'm trying to think of the influence on BB other than Falcone being in it.

Just read Vengeance of Bane today...quite good. It alone gives me all the hope for the characterization of Bane in this movie. And I'm sure Nolan has read it since it's part of Knightfall.

Yeah, TLH was a much bigger influence on TDK than BB. Nolan cited it specifically in several interviews.
