Think again. Universal Pictures has greenlit Kick-Ass 2, with Jeff Wadlow directing his own script. Discussions are underway with cast members like Chloe Moretz, Aaron Johnson and Chrsitopher Mintz-Plasse.
http://www.deadline.com/2012/05/kick...s-jeff-wadlow/ Wadlow wrote the script for Vaughn, so I guess he'll be on in a producing capacity. Production is scheduled to start in August. |

How disappointing. 1, that a sequel to a film that doesn't need one is being made. And 2, that its not Vaughn or at least Goldman.

It should be either "How disappointing that Millar wrote a follow up series to one that didn't need it" or "Kick-Ass 2 sucked. They shouldn't make it into a movie."

I've never read a single issue of Kick Ass or Kick Ass 2.
The only reason Mark Millar wrote a sequel to the comic was because Vaughn talked about doing a sequel to his film. Though Vaughn's sequel was never going to be an adaptation.

At first when I read at deadline there's going to be a Kick-Ass 2, I was like:
![]() Then I read that (not surprisingly) Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman are not coming back and instead they got the writer/director of Cry Wolf (never saw it, but vaguely remember people saying it was terrible) and Never Back Down (a movie so crappy that when I saw it on HBO, I still wanted my money back). ![]() Maybe, this will be the movie that allows that guy to turn his career around, but I honestly believe Vaughn is one of the most entertaining and clever directors working today and is therefore really underrated. Everyone of his flicks are just giddy (Layer Cake, Stardust, Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class). Also, I worry about getting Moretz back now that she's doing Carrie. And even if they can she'll be 15 or 16 when this goes into production (see how much older she looks in Dark Shadows). I just feel like they waited too long. All that said, the first movie was one of my favorites of 2010 and has more rewatchability than almost any superhero film ever made. It's one of those classic meta-films like Scream, Shaun of the Dead and Cabin in the Woods. As long as they get Moretz and Johnson back (I'm sure McLovin will not be hard to lure back), I'll see it. But my hopes of a great Kick-Ass sequel are a lot lower than they were two years ago.

I actually don't care at all. It'll open, it'll bomb. No one will remember it existed.

But I really don't care. I came in just to post my 2 cents and that's really about it. Loved the movie, but I'm not some butt hurt fanboy. The sequel effects me in no possible way. I really couldn't care less.

I like this bit the best: Vaughn wrote the script for the project, which adapts not only Kick-Ass 2, the recent comic miniseries, but also the spinoff Hit-Girl, which is due in stores next month. The Hit-Girl storyline will be the first act of the movie, according to sources. It may be good or it may be bad...but at least it will be. And that means...there is a chance. VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

I'm sure if Vaughn wasn't contracted for the X-Men: First Class sequel already, he'd be directing this. |

I actually was sad that they put XFC2 above doing KA2. Fox has Wolverine 2 to fill their X-Men slot in between and I may be one of the few who'd prefer a KA2. We've had five X-Men films with a sixth and seventh promised on the way. Yes, XFC is the best one yet, but KA was a much fresher film to me and had more possibilities. P.S. For this movie to have any chance of working Moretz needs to come back.

The guy who did Cry Wolf and Never Back Down. This just does not excite at all.

I also would have preferred Vaughn do KA2 over XFC2. For the same reason...the X-verse is getting a little worn around the edges for me. (I feel the same about Spider-Man and Batman frankly)

For one, it's being financed by a major studio, which means it probably won't be as bold as the first. Second, that writer/director - yikes. The only reason I'm not completely writing this off is because of the knowledge that Vaughn had a hand in the writing of it. The cast returning is a bonus, sure, but it's a bonus that was pretty much expected if this thing got made at all.

Well, this announcement gives me mixed feelings, on the one hand I am happy a sequel is being made, on the other I am not happy with the choice of director. I've never seen his films, but they are known for not being very good.
But then again, the article said Vaughn wrote the script AND chose the director, so he must see something in him.

Well at least I'm happy that this movie won't delay the filming of X-Men: Second Class now that Matthew Vaughn isn't directing Kick Ass 2.

G.I. Joe Retaliation is directed by Jon M. Chu who directed Never Say Never and Step Up 2. And that film looks like a huge improvement over the 1st. I wish people wouldn't be so quick begrudge certain directors just because of their filmography.

Wow, I can't believe that Kick-Ass 2 is actually happening. I haven't seen any of Wadlow's movies so I can't comment on that aspect but judging by his filmography, it doesn't give me much confidence. However, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Its just how I feel. Never cared for the GI Joe sequel until I saw the previews, same could happen here. However at the moment not very excited about the director.

Assuming KA2 makes enough to warrant a third film (the buzz off the first film has waned after two years, they should have had KA2 out in 2012, not 2013 or 2014), I like another long wait. Come back when Dave and Mindy are both adults. Dave could be in his mid-to-late 20s and Mindy her late teens/early 20s. Exploring these characters as adults after such a ****ed up childhood could be very interesting.
