I understand your skepticism
Sorry if I sounded skeptical; that's not what I meant to do. I am actually just really excited that A) Someone has built a functional shooter and knows what they're doing, B)someone agrees with my microcontroller idea.
I just really want to build this, and... you know.

Theweb didn't you say that the fluid you made only can carry 10 pounds.

@Wadaltmon yea i understand, felt this way the entire time i was lurking on the forum before i joined lol. Me, you, and white_widow can definitely get this done.
@theamazinspiderboy yes, but the formula im using is a modified version of lerens so the only thing special is that i tweaked it a bit and my design which actually made it more efficient. White_widow showed me some stuff yesterday on chemistry that im going to study a bit to make the process way easier.

I asked my chemistry teacher about elastomeric compounds, and he said he had a formula for one, and the structure. He said he would try to bring them sometime, but I wouldn't definitely count on it.
Anyway, you are using Arduino, correct? Don't they use ATMEGAs as well?

Using this electronic / microcontroller method is both more efficient, and easier to build. I feel like I'd rather do that instead of using all of the pumps, and a lever as a trigger.

^ he's right. The only reason why i have a "lever" on mien is because i made it not noticable and it has two sensors on it for firing. one under the circle tech area and one on the palm. This prevents misfires but i could probable put them in more efficient places.

[edit] this means that the lever isnt the actual trigger. it's just used to touch the triggers.

to symbiote-man:

I know, right? All I have is a homemade aerosol can that connects to a small release valve on the wrist.

That's basically how it really HAS to work anyway, in the long run. You're just doing it in a different way than us.

White Widow mine is in a similar stage but built to be worn on the wrist.

Have you guys thought of the possibility of there being no trigger? If you're open to the idea, I've thought of something that I think is pretty cool, and would probably work.

It would be an expensive effort, but I think it'd be a nice way to work around the palm trigger idea you all are using.

Let me try to create a situation for you.

Ok, so say Spider-man is swinging through New York. For some reason he's wounded or weak, and he needs to get away quickly. His web shooter design requires someone with great strength to activate the trigger. However, in his wounded state, he is unable to muster enough force to press hard enough on the trigger. What does he do?

He uses his mind. Spider-man need not press any trigger at all. All he has to do is think about shooting his web.

This idea could become reality through a device called the Emotiv Headset. You can read about it here, on their website: http://emotiv.com/

Basically, it reads the brainwaves and "thoughts" of the wearer. With the correct programming, it could be programmed to activate the web shooter, simply by thinking about shooting a web.

Here's a video showing how the headset can be programmed/used: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KtMCX7FfZ0

Of course, this would require Spider-man to wear a helmet, so for him this idea would be limited to things like the Iron Spider armor and the Ends of the Earth Costume:

But I figure this won't be such a problem for firemen. I know White_widow wants to use the shooters for this application. The Emotiv headset could be incorporated into a fireman's helmet.

Just an idea I had. I think it'd be a cool addition to the web shooter technology. Let me know what you guys think!

Love the idea but a bit unnecessary. I don't see why you would buy something for 300$ when pushbuttons cost 10 bucks with the breakout board. Plus if Spider Man wask not strong enough to press the button he wouldn't be able to swing at all unless the suit had a self swinging mode. Besides that the is a totally sweet idea.

I agree with Awesome Man. It would be unnecessary, because the strength needed to swing webs is much greater than that needed to push a button.

What if he was fighting a villain while web swinging? Wouldn't it be distracting to have to think about activating the web every time?

Yeah I realize it would be unnecessary, I just thought it would be cool. That's a good point, though. I didn't really think about that.

Though I do think eventually it would become second nature. You don't think about walking, breathing, moving your hands/fingers, etc. do you? With practice it could become as easy as thinking about pressing the trigger, which doesn't require much thought at all.

I don't know. It's a cool idea, but if we are going that route, I kind of like the scarlet spider shooters. they have sensor that detects specific hand motions. It is easy to activate a switch doing a vault, but I love the idea of programming specific symbols that are only for slinging.

Has anybody considered using a 3-D printer? Those might help make small parts that you can't buy or can't build by hand.

If I remember correctly, the headset can also pick up muscle signals. If the device were modified to fit the wrist, it could detect the muscle signals made by certain hand movements.

I thought about a 3-D printer but I thought it would be easier to find things that already have the components I need.

3-d printers are expensive Awesome-man. If we had those, we could just make prop shooters.
