We don’t see ourselves as a PC developer – we see ourselves as a game developer. It’s just that the games that we wanted to make suit the PC platform. We don’t believe you can make a Starcraft style RTS and make it Blizzard great on a console. We do believe you could make an RTS that would be on a console, but we would have to have that idea, and that spark and that passion to make it.

One of the reasons why we’re exploring the idea of a console version of Diablo 3 because we feel that the controls and the style of the game lend itself to a console. With some of our early experiments in putting a direct control scheme into the game via a 360-like analogue controller, I’ve been, "Oh this feels even better, with direct control"

Well I definitely won't be getting it on a console though. It's a PC game for me all the way.

If Blizzard isn't bringing Diablo III to consoles, they're certainly doing a lousy job of shooting down fan speculation. The studio has a staff focused on seeing how Diablo would fit on the console space, and Jay Wilson, Diablo III's lead designer, told Game Informer Magazine (issue #224) that they've never invested in console exploration to the degree that they currently are. Now a Blizzard community manager is getting in on the action, responding to a question about whether Diablo III in particular is stepping away from PC exclusivity. The succinct answer? "Yup."

When asked by a Twitter user "[C]an you confirm or deny Diablo 3 coming to consoles? Thanks," Community manager Micah Whiple responded "Yup. Josh Mosqueira is lead designer for the Diablo console project."

We've known for a while that Blizzard has been trying to figure out if moving Diablo to consoles in one form or another would be feasible, but this is the first time anyone at Blizzard has pointed toward that unannounced project being Diablo III, and not a loosely affiliated side story. This being Twitter and all, it's possible that Whiple just glossed over the question and tapped out a quick response without pondering its deeper implications.

We'll keep you posted on Diablo III news, whether or not the word "console" appears anywhere near it.

I had really great fun playing the first one (and Hellfire). The second one was also good, but something was missing that gaved the 1st one the charm. I sure hope the 3rd one will proove to be worth to wait for. Especially considering how much time has passed since it's release had been announced for the first time.

Ya I hear ya.

I'll never forget playing the first one in January of 97, it just was so dark, and atmospheric, on top of the amazing gameplay. I still have Hellfire as well, not as good, but still good.

I remember Diablo II was one of my most anticipated games back in the day, (hard to believe that was 12 years ago) I loved D2, but I admit there was something missing from it, the atmosphere was just off in it. Still an amazing game, but it did not send chills down my spine like the original did. So I really hope the same for Diablo III.

The second I heard it went "Gold" so to speak, I paid off my CE pre-order of it and will be buying it Day One. I just hope it brings back the feel of the first.

I've been playing the open beta for 3 hours now. It's very fun. What's not fun is the lag, but hopefully they'll have that fixed once the retail version drops.

It is on Diablo3 FAQ.
You must be online but that doesn't mean you can't play solo.

The reason for online only is to ensure fairness, diablo 1 and diablo 2 were ran rampant with hacks, and unlegit items.

You can still play by yourself in diablo 3, but you must be connected to there servers.

On a side note, played for about 12-13 hours yesterday, got a lvl 13 demon hunter, lvl 13 monk, and was working on a lvl 13 witch doctor but needed sleep for work, and ended up lvl 10.

Overall, the beta impression was great. There isn't the level of customization that I expected..however blizzard answered it greatly with saying, how many games do you really feel you can customize early on? It's not till the later levels you really differentiate, from one another, it goes from a very static learning curve to a very dynamic learning curve.

I still can't believe its been 10 years since Lord of Destruction came out, but I am so ready.

Interestingly enough, Belial was mentioned about in the first Diablo novel, Legacy Of Blood. My favorite of the series.
