Star Trek: the Motion Picture wasn't particularly well received, yet they stuck with the cast, learned their mistakes and the result was Wrath of Khan. Why can't this be any different?

You can't consider Star Trek as an example. It's a movie that is based on the hit tv show. Technically, the tv show is the orgin story. Plus Wrath of Khan, it's not exactly a sequal. Yes, it's the 2nd movie in the series, but it's not like the Star Trek movie setup Wrath, plus it's completely different in tone from the first film, so if you really think about it, it's actually a reboot, what the first movie should have been.

If you want a true example of a movie, than pick Superman Returns or even Ang Lee's Hulk. Both fail, and not in the box office since Superman Returns was pretty decent in box office, but it failed in the story and execution.

Hulk has had two attempts at B.O. - Ang Lee's HULK and The Incredible Hulk, both times the audience response was same, but Superman has had only so far (Superman Returns), let us wait and see how much success Man of Steel gets before putting it together with Hulk movies.

Lol. I get what you mean. I was on the ledge with this site a couple months ago and literally felt it pissing me off when ever certain posters would comment. But you know what I just decided to skip over these posters and ignoring them. Anyways things are really getting exciting between TDKR and Avengers around the corner.

I hear ya; that extended Avengers Superbowl trailer is truly else. We're on the final stretch now - soon all the waiting will be over.

Only thing is, the cycle begins afresh (!) in anticipation of the next movies.

Sequel keeping the cast, but 100% of screentime on space, with Sinestro Corps and introduction to Star Sapphires e Atrocitus. A sequel, but not necessary a dependent film of the last one.

I voted for sequel. GL was a flawed film to be sure, but I didn't think it was nearly as bad as everyone says. Certianly I feel that a sequel could be great. Do a simpler story. Have Hal return to Oa for further training and have the film focus on Hal's new and old family both imploding. Show us Hal's very troubled relationship with his family on earth, and show us the death of the friendship between Hal and Sinestro with Sinestro putting on the yellow ring.

^Yep, that would be pretty much the perfect way to do the sequel, get more into the character of Hal and Sinestro, make them the focus and keep the tone consistant.

i dont understand the hate for green lantern..i felt it was pretty good a bit generic but still good none the less (but i like a lot of movies that arent exactly popular amongst fans Fantastic 4 1 and 2 to name a couple)....

I dont think it needs a reboot i think it needs a recast of hal jordan...I just dont like van wilder playing hal jordan.... and i know ryan tried his best the one liners werent nearly as bad as they could have been I just feel he isnt that great of an actor..i used to want him as the flash but to be honest..Im against that now the more and more i see him in movies the mor eand more i dont like him...

They need a recast and focus it purely on an epic battle between sinestro and hal jordan maybe have hal go nuts at the end and take the form of paralax due to him having to use so much power or what not to defeat sinestro that opens it up to allowing kyle getting a shot in the 3rd film you could def make this a star wars feel to it.. having hal be a villain that you actually sympathize with at the end of the movie much like vader

Marvel went the "tweakquel" route with The Incredible Hulk, and I think that's what Green Lantern needs. I don't think audiences want to wait through 30 minutes or more of Hal becoming a Lantern again. The next movie should pick up where the first one left off with a quick retelling or ignoring of certain elements of the first movie.

It could be like a loose sequel to the first film, or just do what "The Incredible Hulk" movie did. Maybe it can tell the origin of Green Lantern through the opening credits or something.

Yeah agreed now the general audience has been introduced to the character, and I agree with earlier posts, it would be cool to centre around Hal and Sinestro.

It should be more of a "loose" sequel. I'm just worried it could go in the direction of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. It looked so much better than the first one, and it was considered a "loose sequel." But it was so bad... it made its predecessor look like gold!

That is also true. I somewhat enjoyed the first Crank, but I didn't think they were the right guys to make GR2. Why didn't they recast Nicholas Cage? I liked him in Kick-Ass... but other than that...
