Default Sacha Baron Cohen is The Dictator

Didn't know it was coming out Wednesday as opposed to Friday. Doesn't look entirely entertaining, but I did laugh a little at the extended clip.

Sacha needs to stop this schtick. Stop making these faux documentaries about the unlikeable personas you make up, please!

It's no longer funny. I didn't laugh once at the red-band trailer for The Dictator.

Got a chance to check this out at a free screening last week. Its a full on movie and not a faux documentaries which I think hurts cohen in the long run. The movie had some great parts but most were in the previews like him taking out the trash, terrosit helicopter bit and talking to a womens certain area while pulling a baby out. But overall no where near as good as bruno or borat. I like him better in the faux documentaries and putting people in awkward moments. I kinda got a Zohan vibe too while watching this and I didnt think it was possible to make Anna Faris look like a boy and ugly but this movie did it. Overall 6.0/10 but could have been alot better considering what weve got from Cohen so far.

I've got a lot of respect for Cohen, but this doesn't look funny at all. He should try serious acting for a while. He's got the talent to do it.

She's got a knack for screwball comedy, man. Not many females can say that. Females that are well known in the industry at least.

If he had not dropped out of Django Unchained he could of been in a series of future Tarantino films.

He'll be a child-abusing corpse-robbing criminal in Les Miserables, so that might be a proving ground.

Sacha hasn't done me wrong yet, so I'll probably check this out. Though I'm no particular rush given all the huge summer blockbusters coming out.

It was a tiny cameo though. He actually said on the howard stern show he dropped out of filming it due to that fact he's doing press for this movie.

I doubt it was significant of a role if he dropped out for press.

Dont get me wrong the movie was funny but I chuckled more then I laughed out loud like I did during bruno and borat. I just think he does better in faux documentaries then real movies that he headlines because some parts of the movie felt forced.

Sacha jumped the shark when he became too famous to fool people. It's sad, but the guy can't pull off faux docs with every agent knowing his face and wise to his routine.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s the Dictator

Quote:

The Dictator is the latest comedy from the maker of Ali G, Borat & Brüno, this time heading towards a very political satire of today’s dictatorships and political systems of 21th century, with its title as a nice throwback to the amazing Charlie Chaplin movie, the Dictator.

This is the story of Admiral General Aladeen (Sacha Baron Cohen), who runs the North African Republic of Wadiya, which by the way has a lot of oil. Aladeen hates the concept of democracy and values the concept of dictatorship, but due to his fascination and obsession with nuclear weaponry, the UN demands his presence in the New York Headquarters to prove that everything is okay, but that’s where everything goes wrong: In an assassination attempt his beard gets destroyed, thus no one recognizes him!

Thus after a 15-20 minute introduction to the great republic of Wadiya, the audience is treated with it’s main plot consisting of Aladeen trying to return to the UN to deliver his speech, backstabs within his own personal stuff, learning more about America, seeing political escapees of Wadiya and whatnot, the story is really tongue-in-cheek so don’t take it seriously, just go with the flow and enjoy the comedy it has. The supporting cast is composed of Tamir (Ben Kingsley), Nadal (Jason Mantzoukas) and Zoey (Anna Faris). There really isn’t much to say about the plot, after all this is merely a 82 minute long movie, so who really wants to spoil or go deep into it?

The jokes are crude, vulgar, racist, homophobic and flatout outrageous, me and my friends had a blast during the entire time, added with a nice “Arabic” vibe with it’s soundtrack, you got a nice mixture of Eastern World meets Western, as some of the best jokes come with Aladeen’s dialogue with Zoey, who is just a mere 2nd rate citizen to him due to her womanhood.

So yeah, I don’t wish to get any deeper, it’s not Borat or anything when looked into the Maximus Opus of Cohen’s film career, but it’s an entertaining movie and has a very beautiful speech about democracy, which was just poetry in itself.

Funny movie but the joke gets old fast. Good review Spideyfan93, I pretty much agreed with most of it. Go Mets.
