This franchise should just stick with animation. I'd rather see TV movies instead of some crappy live-action adaptation.

I would love to see a prequel series about the first avatar. give it a biblical scale and illustrate the creation myth for this world, maybe have the spirits over running the world, thus necessitating the need for a mediator in the avatar.

I'd certainly prefer an animated film, but come on, that piece of **** M. Night Shyamalan put out isn't indicative of what a competent director could do with the franchise. Or even a not so competent director could do. He made a terrible film, but that doesn't mean that a live-action film based on the Avatar universe has to be bad.

I think Stephen Chow could make a great Avatar film.

I disagree. Live-action adaptions of animated properties almost never seem to be able to capture the same tone and/or feel of the source material.

And quite frankly, after the debacle of the race issue in the Hunger Games, I don't want that to taint one of my favorite franchises of all time. Avatar is enjoyed by people of different races, religions and backgrounds despite the overall tone of the show to be distinctively Asian. Hollywood would probably be doing yet another whitewash of the show mainly due to the lack of big name Asian actors/actresses in the American film industry.

Needless to say, some fans are going to be vocal about the possible casting choices. So I say **** it. Let it be an animated movie, give it a Miyazaki-level budget and let fan-power drive it. Fan power has propelled less deserving properties in recent years in my opinion.

Part of the appeal of the series is its animation. You lose that with live action. Bending would look dumb in live-action because you couldn't make it look as fluid as it does animated. They'd have to cram an entire season into 2 hours, as well. There's simply no benefit to having a live-action adaptation of the series, especially when the first was abysmal. TV/direct-to-video movies are all they should do as was the case with the DCAU. Mask of the Phantasm was released in theaters, but it's the best Batman movie. SubZero was good and Return of the Joker was awesome.

To punctuate my point. The casting for a movie like the Legend of Korra is going to be difficult.

Let me say this: I don't mind casting a black man in a purportedly "white" role such as Michael Clarke Duncan as the Kingpin in Daredevil or Idris Elba as Heimdall in Thor. Or most recently Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. I don't mind it at all if the actors/actresses can stay true to the core of the character.

What I am worried about is the ridiculous almost Extremist backlash such a casting might generate from the fanbase. Not all of us are open to the concept. And this is what happened with the Hunger Games deal.

Well Nick Fury is black in the Ultimates version, in fact the design of the character was based off of him on his permission.

That's true. Now imagine what would happen if they tried the same approach with one of the bigger characters in the movie. Make Cap black? Or Hawkeye Asian?

I'm not sure how well the new Ultimate Spider-Man was received. I haven't read the Ultimate stuff since Ultimates 2.

My point is simply that just because Shyamalan ****ed it up, doesn't mean that you can't do anything with the franchise in live action.

As for the race thing, it's debatable to a degree, since it's a fantasy world. Though, many of the characters obviously are not white. And the Fire Nation people are clearly not South Asian.

Or to quote the Shyamalan's casting director “We want you to dress in traditional cultural ethnic attire,” she said. “If you’re Korean, wear a kimono. If you’re from Belgium, wear lederhosen.”

Koreans don't wear kimonos, and Belgians don't wear lederhosen. With geniuses like that running the show, it was doomed to be a disaster.

No, but they shouldn't. It doesn't translate well to live action. It's just a waste of time and resources. No matter what they do, it will be inferior to what they could have done in animation.

I haven't read it either but it was all about how Jennifer Lawrence skin wasn't dark enough. Also about how whether or not Rue was suppose to be black or not.

I've always thought that they should make an animated movie about finding Zuko's mom. They've mocked us with it enough, we deserve to have the story told and in epic fashion.

A prequel film isn't a bad way to go. Though, it would presumably not end well for the protagonists.

I agree, I have wanted to know since the end of TLA

That is true, but we already know he dies (with most everyone else). I think it would be actually see the closure on screen with Aang and co.

Okay, so I think it's safe to say that Asami is the baddest character in the show at this point.
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
She's undefeated in everything she's done, and has done nothing but hand out vicious beat downs.

Not really a spoiler, but I'm just being safe.

So, I guess we can rule out Asami being in cahoots with the Equalists.

Some people still think she's going to triple cross Team Avatar. Mostly Makorra shippers.

Yeah, I think those jealous idiots need to get over themselves.

That's one of the reasons why I'm not too crazy about shippers.
