Pretty much. The plot itself is nothing unusual for a pulp piece. . . and that is *exactly* what I was expecting and wanting. Its important to remember that different Marvel characters represent different themes and styles. In Cap's case, that means his movie really should be pulp-ish, not dark and over-focused on the horrors of war.

Unless it's a mature, modern Captain America story.

Yeah, If they do the Winter Soldier story, I expect it to be pretty tame and uninteresting.

Alexander Skarsgard still needs a superhero movie. After seeing him in Melancholia and talked about on True Blood, I could see him as Barry Allen.

So apparently we're all in agreement that the Cap script fit the tone of the film and comics in the '40s?

Can't have the contrast between how things are, and how things were, if the era Cap originated in was filled with dark brooding horrors of war.

Except I prefer more modern Captain America comics then ones from the 40s. In the 40s the Red Skull is just some generic enemy of America, in modern comics they explore how horrific the second in command of the Third Reich would actually be. Red Skull in the comics is a legitimately scary villain, in the film he felt generic.

In a Flash movie, I hope they wouldn't ignore what his villains work in modern comics, which was what the Captain America movie did.

See, that's the thing: the Cap comics require that different era to establish the contrast. Its not the era of comics, per se, as the era *in* comics. Flash doesn't really have any equivalent, because his whole past is largely dragged along behind him.

Or basically, Cap *in WWII* should be like Cap in WWII, not like Cap in the modern era.

But see I have seen so many documentaries about WWII, I kinda wanted the Cap move to reflect the real WWII, not some silly pulp version of WWII. Not Saving Private WWII, something a bit more serious, a bit more reflective of reality of that time. Plus in the comics in the 40s, Cap fought the Nazis, not Hydra, shouldn't that be reflected on screen?

Also modern Red Skull is a far better villain then the golden age Red Skull. Why wouldn't I want to see best version of that villain on screen?

It could go either way, and I was fine with a pulpy WW II in Captain America. The hardest thing to pull off is the tone, and the movie did it well. The more realistic WW II is, the more..problematic it can be unless Joe Johnston was willing to step it up.

While I liked the film, my bigger problem is the second act, and how weirdly Captain America (in costume) makes his entrance while Red Skull doesn't do have a lot to do (besides shaking his fist) till the third act.

Steven Moffat would do a great job with a Flash script. Anyone that's seen how he uses timey-wimey on Doctor Who and humor would agree.

I'm kinda stuck on Garrett Hedlund as Barry/Wally, especially after seeing some of that On the Road flick that was at Cannes.

In terms of directors Im thinking Rian Jonhson ("Looper" and "Brick")
VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

or Ruben Fleischer ("Gangster Squad" and "Zombieland")
VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

I'm jumping the gun but Gangster Squad and Looper looks like they are gonna have some great stylized action in it. ANd I think a FLash movie should have some cool shots and stylized action

If WB want to give a young up and coming director a shoot like they did with Nolan I wouldn't mind Duncan Jones or Joe Cornish getting a go.

Both are comic fans. Duncan Jones had meetings for Superman and Wolverine. Jones turned down directing the new Judge Dredd movie because he had specific ideas for how he wanted to do a dredd movie that was different from the new version.

Joe Cornish co-wrote the Tin Tin script, he is co-writing Ant-Man with Edgar Wright and Cornish was on Fox's list of Die Hard 5 directors.

Moffat would be awesome but he seems to busy with Doctor Who and Sherlock. Moffat have time to do GI Joe and only did a draft script on Tin Tin.

That costume reminds me of the complaints I had about Reynolds when it was revealed there would be a CGI suit.

"Stop overthinking this."

That suit is trying to hard to look like "this is what a real Flash costume would be." Just take the normal Flash suit and layer/accent it with the idea of a speed skater suit.

were they over thinking it with all of bats costume changes?

i don't understand how they're the same. you're comparing a piece of art to a costume on film, which by the way i had no problem with. doesn't GL's suit comes from the power ring? its not like he wears it under regular clothes.

No I'm comparing the way costumes are realized in modern superhero aesthetics.
The fact they thought making a costume fully CGI instead of just making a real suit was overthinking. They were trying to make this living suit of energy with all the bells and whistles as possible that CGI manipulation can provide. Sometimes less is more.

That speed skater concept has appeared several times in comics. Earth 2, The SuperYoung Team Flash, and even some Wizard What If a decade ago. I would hope the filmmakers would simply use the red suit and not try and make the speed skater image overbearing.

At the basics of it. The design you posted was ugly to me. Not even because it was a redisgn it just didnt look good.

I'm not opposed to tweaking costumes but if their gonna do it, do it well. One redesign I did like was this one.

Otherwise, just change the material and the regular Flash costume will work fine
