But yeah, New DC sucks.

I'm fine with it being Alan.

Although it's not really all that inventive considering his son was gay anyway.

Not sure how Zorro became part of the convo, maybe that movie about his brother Bunny Wigglesworth.

That is where the Zorro drama plays out. At the time this was all Spanish California.

As per Allende; his father you are correct was Spanish ie born in Spain, his mother was actually half Native American of the Chumash people who inhabited what is now California, and half Spanish.
She was born and raised by the Native American Chumash.

You really want to say that there are so few LGBT characters. When I can find over 20 LGBT mainstream comic characters with ease, many of whom are in relationships, I don't think one can say how few there are.

Quote:

It didn't make Scandal or the Six seem worse it was a lovely scene that showed how much she loved them both

Three women who love each other getting married is a wonderful thing. Simone had said it was intended as a romantic moment and she wanted to portray it as positively as possible. Any loving and consensual relationship is always a wonderful thing

And had the series continued she would have continued to portray it in a positive way

The purpose of the scene was to portray same sex marriage and polyamorous marriage as a wonderful natural and lovely thing. Simone has stated that was the purpose of the scene and that she fully supports same sex marriage and marriages between more than two people

Which is one of the main reasons I will always support Gail Simone

I love Scandal, Liana and Knockout together and I hope they come back in the DCU soon. Thats the kind of relationship I want to read about

We'll have to agree to disagree here
But you have to look at it in the context of the scene. First of all, Secret Six were a rather surreal group, nothing about Scandal's proposal towards Liana and Knockout is how actual relationships work. The reaction to the dual proposal (all of Liana's friends being happy and supportive when the vast majority of people would be opposed to such a situation) further enhances the surrealness of Secret Six.

Second, the Secret Six are horrible, horrible people. They're not heroes. They're thieves, liars, murderers, psychotics, deviants, etc. Instead of Scandal doing the adult thing (breaking off her relationship with Liana because it was obvious that the connection was there simply because she looked like Knockout who is her true love) she chose the selfish decision having her cake and eating it too and expecting both Knockout and Liana to go along with it. And again, take into account that Knockout and Liana have never met each other and they had never had a discussion about having a polyamorous marriage. And then to make it worse, she proposed right before the Secret Six took off on a mission that was doomed for failure and was taken to jail (thus screwing over Liana).

It's all about the context, just like how you assume that Marston intended for Wonder Woman to be bisexual, instead of looking at the mere surface (in this case the happy ending of Scandal being with her loves) look at the entire picture (Scandal, a member of a group of horrible people, and herself being a horrible person, made an incredibly selfish decision because she could not come to terms of real life and screwing over one of her wives).

It didn't take long for "One Million Moms" to way in on this. They're trying to protest DC and Marvel. I think they're about to feel some epic nerd rage.

Yeah, mysti really is crazy to think they're on many LGBT characters in comics.

Comics are probably the most progressive and positive representation of gays in all of the major media outlets.

It's funny because they don't even have a million members.

I have nothing against gay people. Well at least nothing I don't also have against straight people.

But taking a known straight character and making him gay to make your series look "hip", or more diverse, is just stupid and unnecessary.

20 isnt a lot though hippie_hunter

There are thousands if not millions of straight characters in comics. Twenty or so lgbt characters is still very few

Don't get me wrong. It's great that there are this many already. And i loves most of the lgbt characters we have so far

But there need to be a LOT more. There still isn't one single transgender character at DC (and only one at Marvel)

I'm not calling Marvel or DC bigots or wanting to insult the good they have done

I'm just saying there's a long way to go

And there need to be a lot more lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender characters in the DCU and Marvel universe before I'm happy and satisfied

But both of her wives were happy with this arrangement

Which is the only thing that matters
And the writer of the scene has said herself that Scandal is not a horrible person and that they viewed this relationship as a positive thing and intended it to be viewed as a positive thing

It was intended to show that Scandal has got a good side and to make the tragedy of her and the Six being captured even sadder

That's how I viewed it as well

That's not a fair comparison.

Hippie was referring to POPULAR comic book characters, not ALL comic book characters.

There's probably only a few hundred of popular comic book characters, or millions.

And, if you are looking at ALL comic book characters, then I'm quite sure there's a hell of a lot more than just 20 that are gay.

Or create an Alternate Universe (Maybe actually USE the All-Star Line) and do something akin to the Ultimate line that Marvel has -- and free yourself of the burden of continuity. I just don't like the reboot, it was unnecessary and lazy.

I've seen various figures. But most estimates say that at least 3-5% of the human species as gay. Some have it closer to 10%.

So they actually are underrepresented.

However DC is also disproportionately white.

Invisibles was Vertigo though. I tend to count that as seperate from the mainstream DCU

Ystin in Demon Knights could count though. I'd forgotten that thanks for reminding me

In terms of demographics, comics seem very structured to their core demographic of readers more than anything else.

Not sure if I necessarily count Ystin. Yeah, she cross dresses, but it's really more of a practical consideration than a personal statement. Also, fashion of the time being what it was, even if she didn't have to pass as male to be a knight she'd still end up wearing men's clothing because the women's clothing of the time was absolutely useless in combat.
