In the updated old, instead of saying that Jesse was a "spy he met along the way," he should have said "a spy that *I* burned." <--emphasis on *I* Makes the whole statement about people he has to rely on even more wry/sardonic.

I like the new opening, except they got a little too overly mushy with the doe-eyed gazes between Mike and Fiona right smack in the middle of it. The music could be better, too. But I like the new approach of introducing everyone via key words in their dossiers, so conceptually it's cool.

Season 6 premiered tonight on the 14th. Did you miss it? There's still about 10 min. left in the re-run and maybe they'll play it again over the weekend.

But why would Donovan say in a recent interview that they were going to kill someone in the premiere? He must've known it didn't happen. ![]() Anyway, my thoughts on the premiere: Anson continues to be a tremendous villain. His conversations with Michael and cat and mouse game are top notch. He is single-handedly saving the show from mediocrity, IMO. Jesse on the other hand, continues to be useless. I hate that they added him to the opening sequence. Mostly because the character just shouldn't be there. The subplot with him saving Maddie felt tacked on. It was a great way to show how evil Anson is, but just felt like the writers' way of saying, "Oh ****! We forgot about Jesse! Let's just tack on a subplot to give him something to do!" My other problem with this episode is what exactly was Bly's motive? The last time that we saw Jason Bly, he and Michael had made peace. Why try to coerce Fiona into implicating Michael? If he still harbored a grudge towards Michael, Michael no longer had any leverage, Bly could have come after him at any time. I was excited to see Bly return, but the capacity that they used him in really didn't fit the character at all. Unless he is working for Anson which also doesn't fit the character. It would've made far more sense to use the FBI agent who interrogated Maddie in season 3. He still has reason to dislike Michael. So yeah, the good would be Anson and Michael/Sam. The bad, the use of Jason Bly and Jesse. But yeah, I really feel like the show needs to kill someone off. Preferably Jesse. The writers keep raising the stakes, but it never really feels like anything is on the line or any real payoff/consequences. It is like playing poker with Monopoly money. Even with Fiona in prison, we are told at the end of the episode, that she gets a get out of jail free card the second that Michael catches Anson, so there is really no sense of suspense there. We've already been told how they are going to get her out and it is fairly simplistic. They need to kill off a character to raise the stakes and send a message. The writers have gotten too comfortable. They are content in their McGyver for the 21st century rut. They need something to shake them out of it and shake up the story.

Killing off Sam would have been the biggest mistake the writers could ever make.

Yeah. You can never underestimate the contingent of Bruce Campbell fans that's a part of this show's ratings. Not to mention his purpose as the not-always-too-serious counterpoint to Michael's ramrod personality.

Yup. The three of them just compliment each other so well. It's what keeps the show interesting.

Liked the Prem, Mike needs to chill and listen to Sam, his biggest asset is his calmness under pressure. Anson really is a great villain and hopefully will be used across the season as he seems the type to have back up plans for his back up plan.
I knew Fi would figure out the explosion damage didn't match the story she was being fed, now it'll be interesting to see what she has for storylines while in prison.
