First The Avengers game requires Kinect. Now this is not coming to Consoles. So much for more Superhero games

Yep. That's literally all this. This is not a Marvel MMO. -sigh-
Guess I'll be sticking to DC Universe Online sporadically. |

I admit, I was hoping it would be similar to DCUO. A big action MMO. Honestly didn't expect Diablo Style. But since I'm a fan of the XML/MUA games, I don't mind too much.

An MMO.
Not that I really care. I'll stick with City of Heroes and not live in the shadows of giants.

What's the difference between this and an MMO?
I'm actually curious. I'm not much of a MMO player.

I'm actually glad that this is Diablo style and not like other MMO's. One of the things that irked me when this was first announced that you play AS the Marvel characters themselves is the thought of seeing hundreds of Wolverines or Spidemen running around. This somehow makes it seem alright.

Beside those of you who will be turned off anyways. it's fine for super hero squad those little kids they don't give dam. but I've seen others with people teen's to adults that are just too overly selfish or just have the issue of there being doubles that'll cause problems for various reasons. I'm sure that's gonna be the real end deal breaker. Not this "consoles "thing cause as I stated before we got the link and donut went in his usual doom mode. "it's subject to change "between now and next year. look As I stated before the only reason marvel's doing this is to compete with DC. Dc made an MMo and it sold (it's all that matters to them) and the went on to make marvel online. example DC Universe Online is SOE's fastest seller yet from some years back . the point is they saw that it made money and they are fallowing suit after what DC did . if you don't get this, look this was in the news this morning on CNN about marvel and DC's competitiveness about Dc making a well known hero (they haven't said who it is just yet come out of the closet.) Marvel's response they make north star get married to his recent long time boy friend. http://inamerica.blogs.cnn.com/2012/...ef=storysearch Why I'm bringing this up ? Their doing this for that same reason their still trying to one up another. there will be in console versions that's nothing to worry about. Marvel will take all the places that Dc left out. That mean's Nintendo, MS next console and the neutral Territorys pc, mac,(through steam) origin and the other that I foregot formerly when I was talking to havok onlive. this how they think. They want to win in this thing it's just how things are. as for that avengers kinect thing I can't say much but I keeping my eye on this for now. I'm surprised how fast people were ready to drop this with the exception of Drakoniz and havok. BTW if you all for got or some of you new to this thing didn't see it if you look back to the early parts of this thread when I announced that they restarted this MMo with this developer they said they worked on the game "torch light" so it's not that big of a surprise about this happening at all . though I hoping for a different style and in a more action way then what DCUO presented. but it's still also too early to jump ship just wait for further news. Things have changed with thing enough times already. Last edited by zenith16; 05-26-2012 at 11:51 PM. |

I have this same question. I never played Diablo, so... is it not online or something? Or is it that you can't adventure and be in the lobby at the same time? Somebody help me.

I've played both and I've been on Star trek online and DCUO the difference between the MMO and diablo is simple. An MMO is filled like an almost second version of the real world even if it's third person, you can talk to others, team up with various people from other time zones and doing it in game with out a lobby.
diablo is kind like how you start left for dead in the beginning you wait for you buddies to get on through the lobby you set up and you play the game through jump in and out co-op big difference you don't meant new(possibly cool) people through the game unless your lobby is open. the Experience is just different on many levels. But in the end diablo is like how star craft and is with out it being too overly RTSish and you don't have worry about meeting others. your stuck with mostly npc's , besides your buddies that you know from real life and see day to day that you have lan parties with . diablo is just a more isolated experience. What I was referring to was the mechanic that allows you to collect and switch characters so I'm picturing it will be more akin to Dota or LoL than DCU Online. I'm waiting for more info on whether it will be mission based or a massive open world. From the limited info given, I'm assuming its going to be the former.

from what I remember they former planned on us fighting during events through out the MU like civil war. And then they dropped it into ultimate alliance cause they cancelled the first attempt to the MMo due to argument with cyptic studio's . I was hoping it wasn't due to them wanting it to be like MUA. cause that would the stupid est thing seeing that happen. but now ......................... It's announced as Massive, Multiplayer, and Online... So it will be an MMO. Some of you guy's seems to think that a MMO is a RPG...
Really glad they did a hack & slash type of game (or action rpg). Loved Raven's ones. Looks like Super Hero Squad online (wich I really like, thought that they put a lot of effort on that one) in a more adult take. The best Marvel MMO IMO would be a MMORPG with evolutive world. With an ingame world that evolve with what happen in the comics. |

I think the game looks great so far. The worst thing about it is the generic title. Man I really hate it and wish they went with something else

except it isnt. CoD is multiplayer and online. It doesnt fufill the massive requirement. He was right in that MMO doesnt necesarily = MMORPG. MAG is an example of an MMO, and thats an MMOFPS. Ditto for the upcoming Dust 514

Have you seen the amount of people who play CoD at any given time? I'd say the number rivals any MMO.

How's that Superhero Squad Online game? There are probably similarities. Are there Hubs with hundreds of people running around?
Aren't those closed off matches though with 8-16 players at most? I barely know a thing about CoD, so the player count could be off. |

Whats the max player count in CoD? 32? Thats not massive by any means. MMO's typically have the potential for hundreds of players in the same online space. The closest to that for an FPS is MAG on the PS3 with up to 256 players in one match. CoD doesnt rival that at all

@Nathan
SHSO game seems to be pretty close to the Marvel Heroes game, except it's for child. But it does have hack & slash type of gameplay, simplified and really easy to use. But you do have to collect multiple characters, upgrade them by winning XP etc.... In fact, even if Im 24 I enjoy it a lot when I was still playing (most in beta). It's a really great game for kids, well executed, and well thought. Marvel Heroes seems to be more mature, but it will certainly have some similarities with MUA/SHSO type of game. If the goal is to have fun and "collect" characters, play missionetc, I'll be all in. for the MMO part. Well, CoD can't be a MMO for all the reasons listed above. You can have million of player, the important for the "massive" part of the term is to have million or thousands in one unique server. CoD and other multiplayer game have a top of 64 players in general (32/16/8 etc...). There is some exception, but that doesn't make them Massive. A MMO can be RPG, FPS, Hack & Slash (or action rpg) or anything you want. another point is that the servers doesn't stop, it's usually a constant world. But I get why most people take MMO for MMORPG, most of the MMO are RPG. And that is because it have sense like that (as you pas a role, a character, it's better to evolve in a perpetual growing world etc... So RPG is the perfect type of game for a MMO. |
