This looks so, so good. I love the stage version and it looks like the film will not disappoint. The trailer gave me chills when I saw it before SWATH last night; unfortunately it was partially ruined by a bunch of teenaged idiots in the theater who thought Anne Hathaway's haircut was hysterical.

When my mom and I saw the trailer yesterday, my mom (Who had forgotten some details about the musical, even though when she was part of the Philharmonic Chorale some years back, she helped them sing a few numbers from it) sadly asked "Why are they cutting her hair?" I explained she was selling her hair, my mom said she forgot that part.
Those 'Master of the House' tweets are funny. As I said earlier, one of the things that first got me excited about this movie was envisioning Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham- Carter singing 'Master of the House,' that's another moment of the movie in which I'll probably have tears in my eyes, but this time they'll be tears of laughter!

Yeah, I had forgotten about that too until I saw the screenshots of her a few weeks back.

I'm most intrigued by Russell Crowe as Javert. That's such a fascinating character and I'm sure Crowe will do a great job in the role, provided he can sing (I hope he can!). I hope this is the movie that puts him "back on the map," so to speak. His career and reputation have taken major hits over the past few years, but I think Les Miz and Man of Steel will reestablish him as an A-Lister.

The last line of the song has been, "The dream I dreamed." and Anne sang it, "A dream I dreamed." I wonder if the changed lyric is intentional by the filmmakers and the original song writers?

I wouldn't be surprised if some lines are changed to certain songs.

One extra reported in the courtroom scene, Hugh sings "so Your Honor you see it's true" rather than "so Javert....."

Also, in the scene where they are pulling ropes, another extra reported that the line "the sun is strong, it's hot as Hell below" has been changed to "no God above, and hell alone below" which makes sense considering what they are doing.

Just a random thought... that girl playing Eponine is a stunner. So, SOOOO glad they didn't give that part to Taylor Swift, lol.

It's also important to remember that the song lyrics in the musical itself have even changed several times over the years.

"On the tomb of Lamarque shall a barricade rise" being one of my favorite updates.

I find it particularly amusing that Russell seems to be having a blast making this movie, whereas from what I've seen he portrays Javert so well as being appropriately stern and wonderfully joyless.

Yeah, Samantha Barks is pretty hot, and she also performed the song "On My Own" in Les Miserables' 25th anniversary concert as well. As for Swift, I'm glad they decided against casting her as Eponine, but some thinks the whole thing may have been conjured up by her publicist to try to win the role in the first place.

Haha, wouldn't surprised me. Reminds me of that bizarre campaign by Lindsay Lohan to get cast in Man of Steel.

Yeah. I had never heard of Samantha Barks before, but the amount emotion and talent she expresses in "On Your Own" is great. I have my doubts about TSwift being able to act the part and no she can't sing like that.

BTW just found this cool thing:

"One More Day" sung together by the 25th Anniversary Cast and the 1985 Original West End Cast of Les Mis:

VIDEO-CLick to Watch!:

Pretty nice.

You should look up the Valjean Quartet singing "Bring Him Home"

Definitely made me cry at first listen.

Loved that. I have this on blu-ray, it's awesome.

Btw, if anyone is a Game of Thrones fan, the original Javert from the 1985 is Roger Allam, who played Illyrio in Season 1

Is anyone else a fan of the non-musical movie from the late '90s with Liam Neeson and Geoffrey Rush?

It's not a musical, and they condensed quite a bit (Eponine is cut altogether), but I always thought Neeson and Rush were great in the roles (although their performances were strictly acting, they didn't have to sing).

I like the movie. I saw it many years before I even heard a song from the musical and I still think it's the best film version of the story, if for no other reason than the acting (Liam Neeson, Geoffrey Rush, Uma Thurman, Claire Danes) and it's the only film version that really showcases how terrible Fantine's life is and the horrors she went through. Even moreso than the musical, from what I can tell. I also prefer how they reimagined Cosette from being a passive damsel like in the books to actually having a real relationship with Valjean.

But it did cut out Eponine (who honestly isn't that essential in the book, but seems to have been beefed up for the musical in terms of importance) and the ending is...way too abrupt to put it lightly.

Still, a good film that kept the tone of desperation from the book better than any film adaptation I know of.
