I think just little nods to other heroes in MOS would be much more effective than hitting the audience over the head with the SHIELD references like they did in Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America.
A little bit goes a long way. Just a reference or two, maybe a post-credits scene would help build up to a JL film. |

With the rumors of a "Darker, more mature" film we can already see (if true) that WB is taking a different approach than Marvel/Disney did with Avengers.
Therefore, I can see them leaving the solo flicks without too much, if any JL references. |

That's from renowned ********-spreader Mark Millar. Disregard.

Does anyone think that it is possible that the suits at WB changed Snyder and Nolan's mind about this version of Superman being contained in his own universe and that to use it as a launching pad for the DC Universe on film?
I mean, they've been done filming for 4 months. They'll be in post for another 16 months. Do you think the suits could've changed their tune? Because, honestly, who better to usher in the DC Universe from a clean slate than the new modern day take on Superman?

At this point the only thing that I'm worried about is that by having Cavil's Superman in a shared universe with other heroes on how limited his solo threats/obstacles will be on Earth.
I mean I could argue that I don't think the threat level for Nolan's Batman would be presented as high as it is now (TDKR) if Bale's Batman was located in a universe where other heroes were present on Earth. Unless every hero was off on some space mission for the entire duration of the events of TDKR, I couldn't see things escalating as big as they have in Nolan's world without the other heroes coming to Batman's aid. And superman constantly deals with villains that threaten the safety of the entire planet as well. |

Adding to that, hasn't the buzz on Gangster Squad been pretty bad?

I've always felt that villains on a more 'personal' scale make for a much better sense of a threat to the protagonist. I mean, Superman's solo films can be dealing with things that are more of a threat to Metropolis than the world (obviously with the exception of this first film, where Zod and Faora do present a threat to the world, even if the story does focus on the personal aspects of their feud). Weave in Lex and Intergang, and you've got a city full of corruption that needs combating. And that doesn't have to mean all intellect and no fight scenes, because you can make use of physical villains like Metallo and Parasite etc, in order to keep the 'fight scene' quota up.

If anything, this is how I would establish things in a DC Film Universe:
1. Have the events of "MOS" be a triggering point for the entire world inside the DC world, where it launches a chain of reactions that leads to other heroes and villains from the DC mythology emerging as well. Up until Superman's debut, let it be established that Clark Kent was indeed the first "costumed Hero" in the DC World. 2. I would have the JLA film released in 2016 or 2017, with the likes of Wonder Woman, Flash, and Aquaman getting their own films in between since then, with Batman's film being the last one to release so that some amount of time would have passed since the release of Nolan's last Batman film. 3. The JLA film could introduce another member or two from the JLA without having to waste time in giving them solo films previously. |

As for superman being in the film, that makes sense to. Because if they aren't planning to use reynolds bale or cavill, you are basically left with Justice League mortal and this being the second attempt to get it filming. |

Not to mention, if Bale just comes back for the JLA film, would we see any more solo Batman films? In some ways I think they'd be ruining the integrity of Nolan's franchise by continuing off of that continuity with Bale, and I think Bale would be aware of that as well and thus be reluctant to do so. |

I dunno, if the script is good why not I say.
Right now its tough to say because they are in the middle of promoting TDKR and trying to push the idea that batman dies in the end and its the last film, once the film comes out we'll see what they decide. I mean bale did terminator salvation, so I don't buy the notion he'll completely rule out the film. |

I'd let everyone exist in their own worlds. Here's my idea. Let the worlds sprawl out.
Over a trio of Superman films, a trio of Flash films, a couple Wonder Woman films, a Lantern reboot and a loose continuation of Nolan's Batman featuring new Batmen. I'd also have a Martian Manhunter film included, which depicts a surviving White Martian horde, and cap it all of with a Legion of Super Heroes film that deals with Darkseid and the New Gods. Once it's all done, do two epic Justice League films made back to back, which bring together the characters in a Flashpoint/Crisis On Infinite Earths like dimensional tear and combat an enemy that threatens to rip apart the fabric of the entire multiverse. That way each hero has an individual world he's striving to defend, the stakes are high as hell without needing to downgrade the previous movies. There's also an epic amount of story to tell which would include a hell of a lot of action to take in.

Technically, at the rate post-production is going... Man of Steel will be done by fall or winter this year. But they can always do reshoots if WB is keen on a more contained universe leading up to a JL film.

But I'm a bit confused as to why they couldn't release the film in December, considering how ahead of schedule it's going to be ready.

I think it's because The Hobbit is already in that slot.

Well it makes for even better visual effects. Like JJ's Star Trek was delayed from Winter 08 to Summer 09. And in that delay they had extra time to deal with the CG and sound design.

This is all a shame because the ideal character and franchise to usher in a JL film is Batman.
It's a billion dollar franchise on it's own. "Man of Steel" has a lot going against it at the box office. It may not do for "Justice League" what Ironman did for Avengers. The timing for a JL film is all wrong. WB missed the boat, especially now with the most successful Batman franchise coming to a close. I think there's more harm that could be done in this attempt than good. Especially if this project is as studio-driven as Green Lantern was, and as Justice League Mortal was. The timing of this JL announcement makes me think it is. Could be a fail of epic proportions. I just hope it doesn't hurt the potential success of a MoS franchise. |
