That's sort of what the article I linked above stated. NBC all year on their national broadcasts only ever shows BOS, NYR, PHI, WAS, DET, CHI, or PIT.

Only one of those teams made into the Conference Finals. There wasnt much attachment on a National level (or at least outside their home markets) to PHX, LA, or NJ.
