Is Ultimate Spider-man worth reading post-Ultimatum? I got one opinion at my local comic store and he said it wasn't that good, though I would like a second opinion. I very much enjoyed Ultimate Spider-man pre-Ultimatum (Ultimatum, meh). I also seem to recall flipping through the first issue of Ultimate Comics: Spider-man and being a little put off by the art.

I quite enjoyed it myself.
Bobby Drake and Johnny Storm really made for a phenomenal supporting cast for Peter.

Honestly, that's probably the largest reason I would like to keep going. I knew they were both added and I loved it whenever Johnny joined before and I immensely enjoyed when both he and Bobby were there in the later issues.

I collect a lot of X-books and am currently looking at some older trades to possibly get. Are Claremont's X-treme X-men and his most recent Uncanny run (the New Age I believe it is called) any good? I've got some of his older stuff and I really like that.
Also, which older X-crossovers are worth getting? I'm looking at Inferno, X-cutioners Song, X-tinction Agenda, Fatal Attractions, Age of Apocalypse, Onslaught, stuff in that vein. Which of these books, or books like this, are worth getting and which should I skip? |

As for the older crossovers, I consider Inferno the best crossover Marvel has ever done. X-Tinction Agenda was really good too although it might seem confusing to a newer reader because the franchise was in an odd place at the time. The X-Men were pretty much disbanded, Xavier was nowhere to be found and the original 5 were disconnected from the team. The New Mutants were left hanging with no leader and this was right after Cable was introduced so they were in uncharted territory. X-Tinction Agenda was the first story where they were all reunited for the first time in forever. X-Cutioner's Song was during a turbulent time at Marvel so the story and especially the art were hurt by the Image exodus that had recently took place at the time. There was a lot of smoke and mirrors in regards to Cable/Stryfe/Scott/Jean, basically this was the X-Men at the height of their convoluted storytelling. Fatal Attractions was good but I recommend trying to find the stories that paved the way for it, namely X-Men vol2 #1-3 and Uncanny #300. Age of Apocalypse was a fun alternate reality story for it's time but that was back when the X-Men hadn't had a story like that since Days of Future Past. Since then there's been way too many. Onslaught was decent, not the greatest, not the worst.

For a beginner wanting to get into the comics, but familiar and a fan of the Movies/Animated Series, what do you guys recommend? Especially with regards to Avengers?

Depends on a few things. Do you want historically the best stories or things to get you up to date with recent stories? Better yet, what about the movies and series do you like and dislike?

I'm into avengers mostly due to how great the movie was and then there's the earth's mightiest heroes cartoon which is my favourite marvel cartoon, some of the story arcs were really nice, like secret invasion. I do like other stuff too like x-men and spider-man but mainly avengers. Should I read the Ultimate series?

You could read the Ultimate series if that's what you're interested in. It bears some similarity to the movies. But the cartoon series is definitely more based on the original comics than the Ultimate ones.

If you like AEMH then skip the Ultimates, tonally it isn't anywhere near that. Try secret avengers, different team but closer to the feel you like.

Yeah, it hasn't missed a beat as far as I'm concerned. Gage expanded the cast pretty heavily but the mix of characters new and old has worked out well.
Some people have felt that the AvX tie-ins hurt the book but I think the recent issues with Emma Frost trying to destroy the Sentinel was some of the best issues in the run.

No, it's great. Best Avengers book out there still and easily.
I liked the sentinel stuff, personally I think the hate he gets for his iron giant is pretty racist. Everyone's always, "well you hang out with a sentinel so you can't sit at the front of the bus, or eat in our restaurant" and it's just messed up. Glad they stood up for him. |

To be fair, his best friend is like a giant, walking, burning cross or a Confederate Flag with eye lasers.

I missed the first issue of this Infernal Man-Thing mini... Have the first two issues been any good?
Worth picking up all three with the release of the final issue next week? I've been wanting Marvel to get back into these characters for a while, so I want to get behind it... but with 2/3 of it already released I figured it'd be worth asking first.

Yeah but a rehabilitated one. He just wants to have a friend, and the kill all mutants talk makes him zany and fun at parties.

I haven't seen anything official, but I imagine Annihilation might have a reprint coming up. Marvel's gonna be pushing the Guardians of the Galaxy pretty hard in the coming year.

They're reprinting Thanos Quest next week, so it's starting sooner than you might think. We might start seeing a lot of cosmic stuff coming down the pipe.
