I never understood where that glider materialized from. It just kind of appears and replaces his cape or something.

I was always under the impression that it was supposed to be the cape itself and just some crazy Wayne tech in that world that allows it to be sturdy enough to glide with at points. I know to us as a movie audience it's "hey the actor is on a glider" but in the context of the fantasy environment the movie takes place in I viewed it no different than the functions of the cape for the Batman in the latest movies.

Such a beautiful shot. I'll never forget how mind blowingly stunning that scene was on the IMAX screen. It was for me personally the highlight of the whole experience. I almost want to see TDK on the IMAX screen again to relive that moment if it's true that it will be paired on a double bill with TDKR in some spots when that one comes out.
I had this too; it was one of the prizes I won in a class spelling bee back in 3rd grade. I completely forgot it even existed until I saw this post.

Here's a video from Entertainment Spectrum clearly showing the hype leading up to the films release on June 19th 1992...

That moving standee thing is awesome. Plus I didn't see too many kids crying coming out of the screening. ''We did have a larger Catwoman poster... but it's been stolen'' ![]()

Happy 20th Anniversary to a great Batman movie. Popped in the Blu-ray tonight to celebrate. It isn't perfect, but it has undeniably great elements. Pfeiffer, Keaton, DeVito, and Walken all give great performances. Pfeiffer and Keaton's chemistry is still unmatched by a long shot in the superhero genre. The production design is quite a bit different from B89, but works amazingly well in its own right. The snow covered Gotham is beautiful.
Elfman's score is awesome, tied with B89 as my two favorite movie scores. I love how all three of the villains are a darker version of Bruce in some way, whether it's the brutal and greedy businessman or the orphan who is mad at the world or the murdering vigilante who had a serious trauma happen in her life that she can never recover from. Thank you Tim Burton and everyone involved in the production of this film. It was a big part of my childhood and I look forward to enjoying it for many years to come.

Wow, I had both of those books. Brings back a whole mess of memories.
This is basically the movie that started it all for me. I was 5 when it came out, and I had only seen Batman 89 once on TV sometime in '92. I remember them airing a little sneak peak of Returns at that time too. From that point on, I was a hyped little Bat-fan. I remember seeing the movie in theaters and being pretty disturbed by The Penguin. But deep down I loved the thrill of being truly frightened by the villain, it made me really just feel Gotham's absolute need for Batman on a really primal level that has resonated ever since. Hearing Elfman's score in the theater really left a huge impact on me too. All in all, I couldn't possibly 'get' what I was watching 20 years ago, but it certainly shaped a lot of my earliest ideas about Batman. Happy 20th Batman Returns! |

Never seen them tv spots before and I like how they used bits from Batman 89.
Love Danny Elfman's soundtrack and happy 20th!

It's hard to believe it's been 20 years. I remember skipping my college classes with a friend of mine so we could go to the first showing. It was one of the first films to be shown in the theatres THX room. I remember like it was yesterday.

20 years, where does time go. This was my first comic film, my first Batman film, and still my favorite comic film. I owe everything comic related that I enjoy (fims, comics, cards, collectibles, toys, etc.)...to this film...LOL.
