If this movie gets bad reviews and the trolls start tearing it apart, then I'm going to be forced to use my ultimate comeback.

Metacritic is the last place i look for good ratings when it comes to films, considering their criteria for critic reviews seem more lax than RT.

As for the origin, like someone said earlier in the thread as long as a) Peter gets bitten by a spider b) Uncle Ben dies due to Peters irresponsible nature. Then they can approach those two points however they please.

Someone else said it perfectly by comparing it to Bruce Wayne. Bruce starts his crime fighting career fueled by vengeance. Spidey starts it fueled by guilt, as long as this is properly conveyed throughout the film, then it's true spider-man.

I agree!

I must admit though that I'm still worried that Uncle Ben will be overshadowed by Peter's parents, and that the third act may be over the top and feel rushed.

CBMs I enjoy the most at this moment: 1) The Avengers, 2) The Dark Knight, 3) Iron Man 3, 4) Iron Man, 5) The Amazing Spider-Man.

CBMs in the near future I'm most looking forward to at this moment: 2) Thor 2, 3) Man of Steel, 4) The Amazing Spider-Man 2, 5) Guardians of the Galaxy (would be higher in the list if it wasn't for how much I hate the film Super from the same director).

But isn't Metacritic reviewers usually the top tier ones? (I.e. Peter Travers, Roger Ebert etc.)
It average the scores, instead of it just being positive or negative.

No, I posted a picture response. A 'oh no you didn't' pic. But it didn't post no matter how many times I tried.

I really doubt that. But, we'll just have to wait and see ourselves

edit: And I dunno, maybe on some parts it's a good thing that the new stuff overshadows the old stuff a little. As long as the uncle Ben part is still pivotal to the story and not just something that they have to do

id imagine the parents subplot is the back bone to the story, but uncle bens death is what drives peter to in the end become a hero

Yeah, that's what I'm expecting too. The only thing I'm really worried about is that if Martin Sheen is able to make Ben as likeable and sympathetic as Cliff Robertson's Ben. I mean, when he died that really pulled my heartstrings

I usually turn to RT for a general outlook on films, Metacritic i use for games.

I'm just hoping for a decent, entertaining movie that is as different from the Raimi films as possible. They can work out the kinks in the sequel.

For the most part, yes, but there are specific details involved with Spider-Man's origin apart from just those two. For instance, some would argue that it's important that it's important that Spidey starts off as an entertainer/wrestler because it shows he's more concerned about using his powers for personal gain rather than helping others, which in turn drives home the tragic lesson he learns in regards to his Uncle's death and which motivates him from that point on to be a superhero. Likewise, the guy who kills Uncle Ben not only has to be someone Spider-Man encountered earlier but someone he intentionally allowed to get away, knowing full well the guy committed a crime and whose face he got a very good look at. That drives home the fact that Peter was being irresponsible with his powers and that he indirectly was responsible for his Uncle's murder. Those two aspects, IMO, are just as important and essential for a Spider-Man origin.

There are plenty of ways to show this without becoming a wrestler, but yes, wrestling/cage fighting is probably the easiest way of portraying that. Is there any indication at all that there is a scene in this film like that?

Well, based on what I can gather from the B-roll and interviews
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:
Peter does fall into a skylight and lands in an empty wrestling ring when he's being chased by a bunch of thugs and he sees a giant poster of a luchadore mask that's very similar to the one Peter ultimately wears as Spider-Man. So presumably, Peter gets the inspiration for the Spider-Man costume from that same poster. Other than that, though, there apparently is no scene that shows him starting out as a wrestler in the movie.

Apparently, sony asked someone to hold off on the review in the UK until the 20th this month :-S

http://defilmblog.be/archive/2012/06...12-review.html

How true? I have no idea TBH. Got the link from a user on boxoffice.com. He seems cool. If anyone is on that site, do you know him?

It depends how true it is. I think I can trust iJackSparrow. But not sure about the site.

Wait and see I guess, unless someone else can confirm it?
