A lot of superhero films that have come out, in fact all of them are lacking that actual 'distinct' theme. I mean Dark Knight and the new Batman series share a 'sound' and have a very atmospheric audio, but the actual theme takes so long to get to it just feels like one big mash up of sounds. I think a theme tune should distinguish the film and character as solidly as it can, so I kinda want that little 'jingle' in my head where you can whistle it or hum it and know straight away what it is, does that make sense? Not sure if I'm making sense. Basically I feel like some Melody is missing from a LOT of Superhero films, and Superman is the Epitome of Hero! SO this thing has got to Sound Heroic, YES I'm not saying don't have the darkness and the grit, that is still possible and indeed important but I really would like this to blow other superhero films out the water Score wise and I think the Theme could help a lot. Honestly can you remember Avengers Theme? or The Hulk? or Captain America? Even Spiderman? Those few seconds can distinguish a character instantly and I think that's what's missing from these new films. I'm NOT saying recreate John Williams theme or remix it , but if you're going in a whole new Direction then, please make it Legendary! Please! I remember watching the opening of Superman 1,2 and 3 with Christopher Reeves those are some Legendary opening sequences that actually sent shivers down my spine for many years watching them. You knew this guy was SUPERMAN! SO basically I hope something like this can be achieved.

Something like that wouldn't feel tacked on if he does it with Williams Superman score. Just a tiny allusion but nothing more.

This is good news, as I like Zimmer, but I was hoping for someone different. John Powell was the guy I was hoping for.

Yeah, we need to get away from Williams score as much as we can. It's great but we need to feel like this is a new animal all together, I love that theme and that score...but this needs to be how the Nolan films defined themselves away from what the Tim and Joel films did.
I might not have had him as my first choice but I can see the reasoning behind it. I want something grand, emotional, ethereal and I think Zimmer can do that for Superman!

Seems more like a coincidence to me.
Definitely agree with moving away from the Williams score. New Superman, new score.

I believe this score is in good hands.
Of course it will be unmistakably Zimmer, but I think he'll definitely give it a heroic feel. He's shown he's capable of this with Pirates of the Caribbean. |

Well, I'm just glad it's not Tyler Bates. I was admittedly hoping for someone else, but Zimmer scores are usually enjoyable and powerful when they need to be, so I guess I'm happy.

great composer, only issue is from all that I've heard from him.....his music has a dark tone and thats my only issue.
Yes they said that Man Of Steel will be a darker/edgier version then we have seen before but the bottom line is its still Superman....the light in the dark, his theme has to reflect that so I hope Zimmer is able to capture that. |

Anyone else think if they were going to go with a Nolan guy they should of gone with James Newton Howard?

This type of score would of been perfect for Superman. I guess the Green Lantern score really did hurt him in WBs eyes.

I will be interested to hear what Hans Zimmer will come up with for a Superman Score. There is no doubt he is a talented composer, but that doesn't mean he isn't capable of creating mediocre scores. Hopefully he does an awesome job. I absolutely love King of Pride Rock from Lion King and Time from Inception. Hopefully he can match that quality.

I think he's a good choice for Superman. His scores are big and powerful, and so is Superman. I'm expecting something stirring and regal.

JNH wasn't exactly the go-to guy Nolan suggested for MOS, it was Zimmer only. Not surprising since Zimmer wrote 75%-80% of the material and JNH the remaining bits in BB and TDK. Of course, Zimmer could ask JNH to join him on MOS, and I don't think Snyder would turn him down... |

You know, I'm not really surprised by the move, but I absolutely love it. BB and TDK's (among Zimmer's others) soundtracks just sound epicly amazing to me. It's funny because the only movie soundtracks that I listen to are Superhero movie soundtracks, for the most part. Since Superhero movies are my absolute favorite kind of movie, I want my favorite composer to work on my favorite Superhero of all time. I know that probably sounds dumb to some of you guys, but it's what I like.

I'm interested in hearing what sound Zimmer will come up for Krypton seeing that it has neo-medieval feel.
