I want to know, but not all that badly. Some have been really on their case about it in an aggressive manner.

You know, I really hope Amon actually attempts to take Korra's chakra away, but she wins the power struggle. After all, chakra removal is supposed to be a risky move. Aang could just as well have lost his ability to Bend.

I thought Asami was supposed to be asian. But Korra does seem to have more characters that could be portrayed by americans than the previous show.

The one thing that I do love about the staff doing TLA and Korra is their sense of poking fun at themselves. 'The Great Divide' is considered the worst episode of TLA by most of fandom... so what did they do in the Ember Island Players? Aang: "Look it's the great divide! The Biggest Canyon in the Earth Kingdom!" Sokka: "Eh, Lets keep flying!" They even trolled Nick as a company at one point by having Aang dress up in a ridiculous battle suit and fall over in one episode just like Nick wanted for the toys to sell. Oh and then there is this, a video making fun of shipping that they aired during a comicon: http://bryankonietzko.tumblr.com/pos...s-silly-little Personal Fav: http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m3...k5lo1_1280.jpg

Asami Sato reminds me of Megan Fox. So I'm just gonna stick with that.

I agree with that a lot more than the teeny bopper from Nick lol. However, she also reminds me of the girl who played Lois Lane on Smallville somehow.

I will concede that adult Aang and Tenzin could pass off as Caucasian (mainly due to the style of beards, which are less common amongst Asians). However, of the main characters, Korra is the only one who doesn't look particularly Asian - which isn't surprising seeing as how the Water Tribe aesthetic never really did, having been based on the Inuit. Specifically regarding Asami Sato, she is most certainly the least 'white'-looking main character on the show. Everything about her design - from complexion, almond-shaped eyes and hairstyle - are very much Asian inspired. I think her Asian-esque appearance is very much shown in this picture. If you're talking about the overall aesthetics (hairstyles, dress sense, etc) then this is because the source of inspiration (1920s Shanghai) was a port city with heavy ties with the British - hence, had a strong European influence. Moreover, the overall designs are much more modern than TLA and people have a tendency to equate modern fashion = Western fashion when it would be more accurately described as global fashion. Inspiration is taken from everywhere and the people who wear it aren't limited to or starting from one geographic region (unless you count Earth as one region). It's somewhat funny how people frequently only view fashion as 'Asian' or 'African' or whatnot when it's the traditional costume, or what people traditionally/classically used to wear. If that's the case, European/Western fashion should all be about the breeches, corsets and petticoats. Last edited by mr. peasant; 06-22-2012 at 02:27 AM. |

Race issues.... I keep it simple. They ain't on Earth so I don't even try and compare as it doesn't matter to me one bit.
