Yeah.. It would make sense that they would want their main mans face out there to sell the thing, it's funny though me and my buddy (the one other guy I know who is a huge dredd fan) have both said dredd as RICO would have solved that problem so easily.
Shame we will never know just how much of a difference it would have made, keeping dredds lid on.

But, now we have "clint" urban.. Fingers crossed they do it justice this time

I feel the same about Stallone's Dredd too, that first movie is what got me into Judge Dredd in the first place.

After watching this new trailer, I think "Dredd" has just as many "faults" as Stallones version. I was forgiving about the new uniform since the helmet was pretty close to perfect and I was excited for this new movie, hoping everything else was going to look like it belonged in the Dredd universe.

Mega city in the trailer just doesn't look right, the Stallone version got it right (without alot of CGI too!). MaMa doesn't seem like much of a threat from the trailer (and I like Lena Headley) and the dialog, including Dredd's, was cringeworthy to me. The way Dredd says "I am the law" feels like an afterthought when it should be said with Authority, almost like he's about to lose it because he's so mad.

Just posting this, take it as what you will:
STALLONE (2008)

I loved that property when I read it, because it took a genre that I love, what you could term the 'action morality film' and made it a bit more sophisticated. It had political overtones. It showed how if we don't curb the way we run our judicial system, the police may end up running our lives. It dealt with archaic governments; it dealt with cloning and all kinds of things that could happen in the future. It was also bigger than any film I've done in its physical stature and the way it was designed. All the people were dwarfed by the system and the architecture; it shows how insignificant human beings could be in the future. There's a lot of action in the movie and some great acting, too. It just wasn't balls to the wall. But I do look back on Judge Dredd as a real missed opportunity. It seemed that lots of fans had a problem with Dredd removing his helmet, because he never does in the comic books. But for me it is more about wasting such great potential there was in that idea; just think of all the opportunities there were to do interesting stuff with the Cursed Earth scenes. It didn't live up to what it could have been. It probably should have been much more comic, really humorous, and fun. What I learned out of that experience was that we shouldn't have tried to make it Hamlet; it's more Hamlet and Eggs...

The trailer looks like they only had enough money for five shots of the city and then it's all in one building after that. Honestly, it looks just as mediocre as the original movie without the hilariously over-the-top performance from Stallone or wacky pro-fascist tendencies.

In short, it looks like the perfect movie to watch when it's been on HBO for a couple of weeks.

No amateur dramatics, no soap opera plot twists and no annoying comedy sidekicks.
Just a lowdown and dirty action movie.

Also, that's why the trailer looks a little clunky. Probably. They had to cut a lot. So a red band one will give us a complete look on the movie.

Felt a bit 'meh' from the trailer, but considering the budget allocated it looks ok. Urban looks and sounds awesome as Dredd though.

The trailer to me was horrible not because of the content that looked fine. However the presentation was terrible at first I thought I was watching a fan made trailer. This doesn't encourage me to watch this in theaters. Perhaps the movie will be good but the directing so far seems pretty suspect.

Wow, I really wasn't expecting much from the trailer since there has been very little info about the movie, but after watching it, I'm excited for it.

Urban looks great as Dredd and sounds like how I imagined he would sound when I used to read the comics.

There's a part of me who thinks it's a shame that the majority of the action is in a building. Now with the Raid, it's a small movie with a small story with big ambitions. Here, you got a larger than life comic book with a colorful world with tons of stories to draw from.

It's helpful to understand that a studio wouldn't have put alot of money on hard-R- rated project, let alone on a property that, as far as the mainstream is concerned, is associated with being a big budgeted Stallone-vehicle fiasco.

This seems like the best way to restart the franchise, all things considered.

I understand because of al of the risks, but I hope the sequel can take it beyond what this film was capable of due to its limited budget.

I'm about 50/50 after that trailer. I mean it was OK but watching it I get a slight bad vibe that it might not be all that good. I get the GR:SOV vibe where the trailer looked awesome but the movie was awful!

If I can I will try to see it in the cinema but if I hear a lot of negative reviews I probably won't bother until DVD release.

I'll go and support Dredd regardless of how good or bad it is, even if it's horrible. I think, this franchise should blossom and attract best filmmakers.
