Crane's look in the comics is not what makes the essence of the character though. In fact I feel Nolan's re-interpretation and backstory makes much more sense, and isn't as bland.

What a compelling argument. You missed your calling on a debate team.

My pleasure. It's just the kind of guy I am. I credit everyone with some credibility in their opinions until they prove otherwise.

In all seriousness though - I appreciate Cillian in the movie but wish (like many others) that he was shown more.
He may be a pretty face but for me he really did get me excited about the character again. As a previous poster pointed out, the fact that he IS good looking makes his dynamic as a villain a bit more interesting and creepy for others. I just love that Nolan has a crush on the guys eyes lol.

Throughout the Matrix films, I couldn't look at Smith without seeing his character from "Priscilla". I have the same problem with Terrance Stamp now when I watch Superman II. I REALLY don't want Guy Pierce playing any character I have to take seriously. Really, once I've seen you in drag, I'll never see you as masculine again.

All the re-interpretation is that: 1) his outfit is just a mask, 2) he can be defeated by a common girl. In comics he has fought Batman back. |

Didn't he fight back because of his gas though? Has Scarecrow ever gone up against Batman WITHOUT the gas? If no, then it's logical that Dawes was able to "defeat" him with a taser.

There's no logical reason to depict a valuable villain as so incompetent we don't even need Batman to defeat him. What's the point for the story? Gotham doesn't actually need Batman but more regular girls with tasers?

I always took it that Batman had already defeated him when he gave Crane his own concentrated fear toxin at Arkham. By the time he faced Dawes, she had been inoculated and he was fully drugged and quite impaired. (Though somehow he was able to get on a horse? Iunno. =P)

Was he truly defeated by a woman with a taser though? Didn't he escape and Batman had to still be the one to bring him down in the sequel?

And oh, his great comeback in the sequel. What an epic and triumphant apparition it was, wasn't it? It makes you think that all the fool he made of himself was worth the while. But no, it was actually more unfortunate than in the first movie. |

And Falafel Guy is probably slapping him time and time again because he doesn't sell falafels right. "Do you want my daughter to taser you???" And Crane cries.

I know right. Scarecrow got bad treatment in this. He hardly wears his mask and the first full scene where he keeps it on for longer than 10 seconds and he gets a taser in the face from Mrs. Tom Cruise.

That was a woefully bad way to bow out a Batman villain.
