Are you suggesting that I won't have to get on a step ladder in order to put a disc into my Xbox720 which is 6-7 feet off of the ground and bolted to the wall?

No, because the next Xbox will be DD only and self aware.

Three billion human lives ended on November 16th, 2013. The survivors of the nuclear fire called the event "Xbox 720 Launch Day".

They lived only to face a new nightmare – digital distribution.

I've heard that they might be going with an online only system to help combat piracy. That would be a terrible idea. It would awful to HAVE to be connected to the internet to play your video game console.

My console is always online anyway, so I don't really care.

Lionhead working on "MMO-like" game for next Xbox

Rare working on multiple "AAA" games for next Xbox

Also, with the recent Diablo III fiasco, I completely take back what I said about always online DRM. **** like that is unacceptable.

I LIVE IN AN AREA WITH HIGH-SPEED INTERNET, BUT I STILL LIKE THE IDEA OF BRINGING MY CONSOLE AROUND TO DIFFERENT PLACES AND NOT HAVING TO RECONFIGURE THE NETWORK SETTINGS.

Wonder if it's all true. $300 sounds like a great price for a next gen console especially if it includes Kinect V2, blu-ray player etc.

I would imagine that like for the 360. There would be more then one model. The $300 one would probably be the cheapest one

I'm not sure if companies will do multiple SKUs again. Didn't they complain that it hurt them more then helped?

They have to know that they just can't flat out charge 500-600 again. People will not pay that.. More so the families that just bought Kinect 1.

The only SKU that hurt the 360 from a gaming perspective was the Arcade, because it didn't come with a hard drive and as a result there could be no forced patches or installs. Mortal Kombat, for example, got pretty ****ed because of it.

It caused some confusion in the marketplace initially, and it had a larger negative impact on developers, but it actually helped Microsoft out a lot in the long run. The Global Economic Apocalypse™ happened a couple of years into this console cycle and having a cheaper option on the market was a great boon to Microsoft because they sold a ton of the Arcade units.

It would be expensive for we the consumers to buy and for MS to produce. Also losing the functionality to play movies in the form of DVD would hurt the system and not having blu-ray would be another strike against it. I dont see it making much business sense for MS to go the cartridge route
Cartridges?

What is this?

1980?

Oh dear God... you're right. Their CPUs are pretty bad too, but 512mb for 360 and 256mb for PS3?! You're joking...

So now this is confirmed as true (but outdated) I look forward to hearing how this Fortaleza thing will work. Blu-ray also is great for me as I can have one less set of wires in the bedroom. A big deal!
