I also like most of your story idea, except the main problem being that Carol doesn't get her powers until the climax of the movie. A superhero origin story needs to focus on *her* being the superpowered one, instead of a "normal" human sidekick to Mar-Vell until the switcheroo in the last reel. Honestly, in terms of traditional Syd Field screenwriting structure, if she doesn't have powers by the first 30 minutes, the audiences will walk --- *she's* the one they came to see, not Mar-Vell.

Also, I'd leave out the "he fathered a Skrull bastard" angle...in fact, I wouldn't do anything to sully Mar-Vell's honor at all. Instead, just make it that Yon-Rogg made up some trumped-up charges (lies....all lies) against Mar-Vell, and the Kree believe him.

Yeah, I thought about the helmet too. I imagine it would be like Thor. When the movie would start (according to my idea) she is wearing it in battle but it gets knocked off by the Sentry. Then as she fights the Sentry robot sans helmet we go back to the beginning of her story. After we introduce who she is she meets Captain Marvel and see the Kree Soldiers, all wearing helmets. When he introduces himself to Carol he removes the helmet and then pretty much like Thor he doesn't have it for the rest of his time on the movie. And then When she gets the powers near the climax she maybe shouldn't have the helmet then either... maybe. But for the majority of the movie she wouldn't. And at the end of the movie, after she saves the day she isn't wearing the helmet.
In fact you can look at my idea for the movie like thor. Thor fights bad guys with his powers in the beginning (like How the movie starts with Carol vs. Sentry) and then he has no powers through most of the movie until the end when (SPOILER!!!) he battles the Destroyer to save Earth. (Just like she gets the powers at the end to save Earth from a giant robot.) But throughout her movie she is fighting Kree Soldiers sans powers but still kicking butt like Black Widow (just with a different fighting style. And the whole movie would be from her perspective, similar to Terminator 1 where Sarah Conner meets this guy from the future. Carol is a former pilot, and now works on SHIELD's SWORD branch, an alien patrol of sorts started because of the arrival of Thor, Loki, and the Chitauri from the Avengers. And thats how she runs into the Kree and Mar-Vell and also why she is skilled in combat like the Black Widow or Hawkeye or any SHIELD agent.
The layout of my story would be
She has powers for the first 15 minutes of the film (how long was the fight with the Frost Giants in thor?).
Then she has no powers (but still kicks butt) for most of the movie.
Then she gets the powers after Mar-Vell's death towards the end of the film, like the last 20 min. (How far into thor did Thor get his powers back to fight the Destroyer?)

And I wasn't trying to sully Mar-Vell's name I just thought that him and Anelle actually happened in the comics and lead to their son Hulkling from the Young Avengers and might be a cool easter egg mention and a way to slip in the idea of a Young Avengers Hulkling movie. Also I never said that the Kree Empire was after him or the Supreme Intellegence, just a small army led by Yon-Rogg. But I see your point. I thought the father angle and him being seen as a traitor for having a relationship with the enemy would be help show his character, like Romeo or something. Showing he isn't just a soldier. But I guess that stuff can be told without the father angle and can be saved for later.

One thing about my idea I forgot to mention is that their armors, much like Asgardian armor, would come in different colors signifying different ranks. Mar-Vell is a Captain so his armor is a reddish metal. Also his star symbol signifies his rank as well, so all Captain in the Kree army wear reddish metal and have that same star symbol. Other symbols are Saturns, and star bursts, and maybe a Z shaped lightning bolt.

Also, haven't done any doodles or sketches of what the Kree Sentry could look like, it would need to look big, impossible to stop, alien, and robotic. And their design should somehow relate back to the designs of the Kree armor, their ships and weapons, and their technology, so that it looks like it was made by them, I guess. but I guess being alien it could look anywhere from the Destroyer in Thor, the Leviathan in Avengers, to the Giant Terminators in that Terminator movie, or the Sentenel designs from the X-Men:

The movie would start with Carol Danvers already Captain Marvel, already
in the middle of a large scale battle with a giant Kree Sentry. How did she get to this
point? Battling a giant automaton to save the city? The movie goes all the way back to
the beginning of the story, all through her side of the story. Carol is an America pilot,
maybe even a SHIELD agent. Maybe even a SHIELD agent on a SWORD mission to
track alien life (what with the appearance of Thor and Loki and the Chitauri on Earth
suddenly). She somehow, as part of her mission/investigation, stumbles Kree soldiers
(small army) chasing down a "traitor" Kree soldier named Captain Mar-Vell. She helps
him and the two become a team against the Kree soldiers, led by Yon-Rogg. They
battle the Kree and run from them. Throught he coarse of the movie Carol learns who
the Kree are, and why they are after Mar-Vell. He is marked as a traitor because he
fathered a child with the Skrull princess Anelle. Its briefly mentioned that the Skrulls
are a planet of rival aliens, bitter enemies of the Kree. Carol proves she is no average
human as she not only holds her own against some Kree soldiers, but also saves
Mar-Vell at least once. The two of them together defeat the Kree soldiers but not before
they unleash the Kree Sentry on Carol and Mar-Vell. Mar-Vell gets in some good hits
but gets killed, his last act is to give Carol his powers/technology. She puts on his
armor, like he told her to, and it conforms to her body and alters her genetically. She
then goes back into battle to stop the Sentry. And this is where the movie started.
Against impossible odds Carol is able to defeat the Sentry robot, perhaps its the
combination of her human DNA and the Kree DNA the suit genetically added to her's.
Sadly though Mar-Vell has died, perhaps she can discover that he had sent his DNA
and a copy of his mind into the Kree technology (like into the Nega bands) or
something... I don't know.
Captain Marvel movie credits scene: Carol returns to report everything to SHIELD and
is approached by Fury or one of the Avengers to ask her to join their team.

the movies Earth bound characters like Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and
Nick Fury, wear unifoms that look like thick fabric and have pouches and zippers and
straps. But because Thor and Loki and all of Asgard are not of Earth they made their
clothing and armor look different. They didn't make Thor look like he was wearing a
costume like he does in the comics. So, my idea is that like Thor Captain Mar-Vell is
from another world that is not like ours. He is an alien soldier who wears alien looking
armor. When he dies he gives his alien Kree armor and alien Kree technology to Carol
Danvers. The armor converts to her body. The armor isn't leather, its a reddish metal
like the Warriors Three or Loki's armor that was colored and not just silver. Maybe I
should have made it more red. There are alien designs and writing on it that I drew here
as squiggles because I don't know how to write in Kree. I don't think they will make
Mar-Vell's costume in the movie look like a costume, I thin it will look like armor and be
more like the Ultimate version. My thinking is that if she is an extension of Mar-Vell,
she might need to look like it. And instead of a uniform like Black Widow's (which
someone mentioned she might look similar too and you want them all to look unique I
think) I thought her wearing the armor might be cool.

Thanks you guys. Some of those ideas I wasn't sure about either, just
playing around to see what works and what wouldn't.

This is a work in progress. My idea for the Captain Marvel movie starring Carol Danvers.
This is one of the final scenes in my idea. Mar-Vell (lost his helmet as so many Marvel
movie characters tend to do) and Carol (SHIELD agent) attempt the stop the Kree Sentry robot,
the bed guy's final weapon. I painted this in photoshop over a comic image of what I assume
is the first appearance of Carol Danvers. I changed to here to be firing a gun. This would be
before Mar-Vell sacrafices his own life in an attempt to stop the Sentry and before he gives his
armor/technology to Carol. Again I am still working on this, for fun.
This is an attempt to do one of those painted visual development pieces they did for
Thor and Captain America.

My thinking is that all the Kree would have blue skin to make them look alien, separate them from humans. And if all Kree have blue skin that would include Mar-Vell. And I gave them all solid black eyes and slightly bigger eyebrow ridges.
And there have been plenty of Marvel movie characters with blue skin: Like Loki when he turned blue.






And if its the big symbol on his chest Mar-Vell already has that, or his coloring thats from the comics too. What makes him look like Captain Planet? Or is Captain Planet trying to look like Mar-Vell?

Or maybe he would try to slip in under Earth's radar. And maybe starting Carol off on the outskirts of some town would be better.
Marvel movies seem to try to show different parts of the world, Iron Man was in California, Thor was in New Mexico, Captain America was in old New York, and the Avengers was in present day New York.

Yeah, but lets admit it, that's a contrivance so that Mar-Vell can naturally look like the average white guy. It should be developed into something really good, or dropped. If you do a racism/prejudice/whatever storyline with the Kree, then keep it (and make the Pink skins actually pink), if not, just drop it and let them all be blue.

That's a good question. Captain Marvell and Carol would both be involved with SHIELD, I think. I think EMH got a good take on it, some remote science facility, perhaps in Canada or Alaska, and then any climactic battles could take place in nearby larger cities... or just out in the tundra, turned into a sprawling sprialing energy snowstorm. Could be a cool visual, and leave room for a very high powered battle. I think a fair enough amount would take place on the SHIELD helicarrier and Kree mothership.

Yes, and yes, that's what I was getting at with the white look over the starfield. You could give it green highlights if you like, again, just an adaptation of his original costume instead of his most well known one. A pristine silvery white sleek armor over a cosmic/alien looking bodysuit, very nice, and as faithful an adaptation as Cap's Costume. The Kree soldiers could wear the red/blue version as a sign of rank and a nod to the original costume.

That is why I posted a lot of pictures. And tried to explain my thinking, to make up for the lack of photoshop/ I just didn't feel like doing more than filling in the colors on photoshop. Its just for fun and not a real job.
But my idea was that the armor is sleek and shiny metal (I toyed with alien engraved markings but abandoned that idea). The armor is made out of red colored metal (mutated so it would be flashy and bright and maybe not the way to go either). But the idea is, like Loki and the Warriors Three and Sif his armor is made of colored metal. It was an attempt to make it look similar to the classic red and blue design while still having it look like the armor from the Ultimate version.

My idea here would be to make it look more like Cap's or Black Widow's fabric uniforms to make it look more like an Earthling is using alien armor
instead of just an alien version of Iron Man.

So I guess not adding the sheen on the armor is what threw people off? the armor would be very shiny, shinier than the sun. Well not that shiny. But its meant to be metal, all the red is meant to be red metal. The blue is fabric, like Thor's pants, but the red is metal. What I was trying to do was to combine all these costumes into one movie costume, I was trying to make it the colors of Ms. Marvel's soon to be Captain Marvel costume so that when she becomes Captain Marvel in the movie it would look similar to her costume in the comics, which is mostly blue with red gloves, red boots, red shoulder area, and red belt. So I was thinking that Mar-Vell's movie costume would turn into Carol's Captain Marvel costume and remind people of all these version, his classic green and white roman styled version, his classic red and blue version, the Ultimate version, and her soon to be Carol as Captain Marvel version. And like I mentioned before, I think they will make the alien soldier's wearing alien looking uniforms and armor and not have Mar-Vell in a earthly looking costume like Captain America's or something. These designs were my attempt at showing all the history of Mar-Vell in one film, his green armor from when he first showed up, his red and blue from when he was an Avenger, the Ultimate armor which they will probably go with, and then Carol's armor which is where the movie is headed in the end (making Carol into Captain Marvel). As well as the glowyness of Genis-Vell. So that none of this will be sidestepped or forgotten when they rush through the history while trying to speed up to Carol being Captain Marvel. But also so they wouldn't have to slow down too much, and not have Carol become Captain marvel till her next movie.
All that and I thought putting a female superhero, possibly Marvel's Wonder Woman, in an armored look might be cool. And the bulkyness of the armor and shoulder pads came from Warbird's armor shown here:








Oh, and I just thought of this, but making the Kree armor look alien and similar to Thor's would add to the idea that Thor is a godlike alien. It would add to the idea that Thor is not human and that he comes from somewhere else. Like what they were talking about in the Avengers, Thor's showing up was the start of all this. So making Kree armor look along the same lines as Thor would connect in a small way back to Thor and what they talked about in the Avengers.

Also I think with the armor she would look good next to these guys.

I have to admit I think Mar-Vell looks cooler as a space gladiator, which is what his original green/white and Ultimate(s) costumes look like, so I think I'd rather see that than the blue-black-red suit.

UGH, hate that pic of Carol's new look... so far I've only seen like two pics of her 'Captain Marvel' redesign that don't make me want to rip my eyes out. One is her giving Spider-Man an aerial piggy back ride and another is a variant promo pic that makes her look kinda like Gwyneth Paltrow.
