I think the Nolan films remain my favs, but this spidey has the potential to top them going by TASM IMO
Depending on what happens in Rises and what Webb HOPEFULLY finishes with this version of Spider-Man, these two trilogies could stand side by side for this viewer.....

But, I wanted to give it one more try so I hoped down to a local video store this weekend and rented the first Spider-Man film since I hadn't seen it since '03 (but I've seen Part 2 many, many times). I didn't want the hype of the "new and shiny" cloud my enthusiasm for this new film.

Within ten minutes of watching Raimi's original film this morning, I had to turn it off. It all came flooding back how much I don't like what he did in the trilogy. I still say that Part 2 is a good film, with problems, but those first and third films just don't work for me.

Amazing works for me. And I'm so damn happy.
You sound like two of my closest friends lol. I saw the movie twice with one of them and both times he walked out saying "So, why didn't they do this first?" and then he went on a whole dissertation as to why it should've came first, mostly saying from a character standpoint and emotional impact and other things he just liked better. I haven't watched spider man or spider man 2 in a while but I know it'd probably get tough to get through

Oh I'm reading this interview from THR with Marc Webb: There will be no director's cut of the flick.

Maybe we'll see something like this in the future...

I understand why. From what I gather from the trailers, what's cut would change the film a little and the origin a lot. I don't think they'd want the next theatrical release to have confusion surrounding it. What they cut probably didn't work and will be staying on the floor. Luckily it didn't damage the film too much when cut from it, although you can almost see something missing.

I'm going with that theory OR/AND the theory that some of those things cut can be saved for a future installment because there are hints that Richard was up to something. And Martha and Billy could pop up in a sequel if Connors is in it. Tolmach already said that the sequel will pick up somewhat closely to this one in terms of a time lapse. My only hope is that Orci and Kurtzman don't go TOO action heavy because I really liked the character stuff and smaller scale stuff in this flick. To get rid of all of that would be a mistake to me

So do people still hate the TASM suit and think it's a complete bastardization of the classic design?

>_>

Ooh. Those concept arts are very interesting. Spidey costumes are kinda... ahem.

I hope they release a concept art book.

I still don't know where people are getting this from.

The lair scene where Ratha says "Do you think what happened to you, Peter, was an accident?"

That could have just been about the fact that Peter happened to get bitten by a spider that had a formula used on it that was developed by Peter's father.

OR (and I think this is the more likely one)...

It's about Peter being abandoned by his parents. It ties in with the shadow man at the end of the credits wanting to find out if Connors told Peter the truth about his father.

I can't imagine why it's been cut then if it didn't change things by quite a bit. I thought the lair scene was needed between the school and the tower. I'll pay better attention when I see it again later tonight, but I'm sure it felt like quite a jump.

Exactly. It could be about his parents leaving him which wasn't an accident or anything like that. It's all speculation that it had something to do with the spider bite so now all of a sudden it's out because it would've changed things? He said some scenes will be on the dvd that didn't make the movie so we'll find out but as of now, take the man at his word (Marc Webb) until you have proof to say otherwise. Also, glad you liked it Troy

Yeah. And haha, yeah, I loved it! What did you think? I had a few minor gripes, but that was it. The 2 hours just flew for me.

Leaving the movie, there were a few kids jumping around and playing like they were spidey. Priceless, that was awesome to see they loved it.

I didn't write an in-depth review but I loved it man. Had a few minor gripes with it but not enough to say I disliked it I saw it for a second time yesterday and still loved it and actually got more out of it from an emotional standpoint yesterday than I did Tuesday night. Really hope Marc Webb stays on to finish out his vision and after seeing it, I'm hoping that Orci and Kurtzman don't go too action heavy and keep the character driven element of it. They haven't indicated they plan to go opposite of that but we shall see. All in all, a great movie experience and I felt like a kid again

Completely agreed! And glad you liked it too. I'm gonna be seeing it again for the second time on Saturday, I missed out a few little easter eggs.
