First Class Sequel - July 18, 2014

I like the idea of time travel in an X-Men film. I've long desired for it.

Is getting confirmed by some sources that Marvel will release Guardians of the Galaxy on May of 2014, and guess what? it will featture time travel from future to present

Earlier today, Latino Review revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy is Marvel's other 2014 movie. Variety has now confirmed this rumour (adding further credibility to the initial claims) and says that the studio are indeed planning to release it on May 16th, 2014. They mention that their reason for travelling back in time from the 31st Century is to, "help to battle the Badoon, an evil alien race that attempts to conquer Earth's solar system."

Would be interesting to know how Fox and Matthew feel about this...

If they were in fact leaning in the time travel direction, hopefully they'll reconsider it now. Or even better, were never considering DOFP for the sequel in the first place (maybe for the third movie instead).

How bout let them stick with what they have been working on since the end of FC. Regardless of what story it is.

Backing down to Marvel Studios shows weakness. X Men starts shooting in 6 months would you really want them to scrap their work in favor of rushing a new concept and script because they got scared?

I had the same response, seems too much for coincidence. It does seem odd for both films coming out the same year to feature similar concepts.

I think that if Fox really wants to do DoFP to bring in Wolverine and other familiar faces, they won't want to change their plans at all. There's no other way that the original actors and the new actors can be brought together without time travel.

And I have to say that for Marvel to go so cosmic so soon with GoTG seems a bit hurried when there are many earthbound characters to explore, like Ant-Man, Black Panther and Doctor Strange (who does have cosmic stories but starts out as a human on modern Earth).

GOTG will be important for Marvel and a way to introduce more cosmic characters. They have two more films before it to ease in the more cosmic stuff. Which I think the audience is already fine with accepting. I dont think its rushed at all. If anything they have everything set up perfectly. Thanos is already set. Going more into the cosmic realms makes sense.

X men will be fine and a whole other beast. It has a good date set.

I'm not so convinced Marvel going all-out cosmic is a good thing.

The worst part of Avengers was the opening scene on the alien world, and the Chitauri randomly appearing with no real sense of the significance of extraterrestrials. The film got away with it because we knew the other characters so well.

And, likewise, Thor's scenes set in space were a bit iffy and CGI-heavy (and they know this because the next Thor will be more grounded and gritty in a more rugged Scandinavian-style world)

It seems a bit too much too soon, I think. They need to take their foot off the pedal a bit.

Doctor Strange would be a better option. He'd solidify the idea of cosmic realms and open up the idea of mysticism (thus allowing Scarlet Witch, if Avengers is to be where she makes her entrance).

Purely for my own personal choice, I'd like Inhumans but they are as much like X-Men as the GoTG plot is like DoFP.

lets see how good the trailers are and if the general audience responds well to the movie....

I think the movie can have a decent boxoffice, like Captain America, for instance....

but this idea reminds me of John Carter, with all that space and aliens stuff... (and I liked John Carter)

but since this is Marvel, they will make sure to sell the movie like a prequel to Avengers 2, and with all the viewers of The Avengers on the theatres, I guess a good portion of them will go see this one too, so maybe its not so risky, after all.

I still preffer Ant-man (my most anticipated right now), and if not him, Black Panther, but anyway.... I hope they do both one day. Specially to see them with the Avengers cast on the big screen

I disagree. Scarlet Witch can be introduced at anytime when a story needs her. Introducing her before Dr Strange would be all the same to me. I dont need Strange to be introduced first. IM not a big Dr Strange fan so again all comes down to personal preference. Id much rather they go to GOTG if I had to choose. They already opened the door to Thanos and cosmic realms, thats the road they are gonna go down and its only going to be developed more. The Chitauri stuff could have been opened up better but in the end very few people complained and are only wanting more. Including what Thanos is all about.

If X Men was being released before GOTG there wouldnt be a problem. They both would involve time travel and thats it at this point. GOTG needs to go to modern times to connect with Avengers. So well see....Im stoked that 2014 is looking good for comic films. Can wait for SDCC announcements.

YES.
Anything to keep time travel and the old cast as far away from this sequel as possible. They can do whatever they want with the third one, they could throw in a few Magneto musical numbers and make the villain the rabbit from Monty Python's Holy Grail for all I care when it comes to the third one. But this sequel needs to be entirely focused on the existing "current" characters, not who they are in the future. We already know who they are in the future. I want to see who they are right "now". I want to see how they struggle and pull themselves up without having to rely on future selves telling them "here's what will happen if you do X, here's what you'll be if you don't do Y". Time travel back and forth is a real screwy thing to work with. If they're using it as a way to fix continuity errors, they're still going to have to deal with audience members trying to sort through all the timelines and try to make it all work themselves (which is a lot to ask of the General Audience, 99.9% of whom don't care enough to continue discussing this film a few hours later, let alone 13 months). If they're not using it to fix continuity errors, the current continuity errors will feel even bigger.

Also keep in mind, NOTHING HAS BEEN CONFIRMED YET. We don't know the first thing about this sequel other than it could potentially be based on the DOFP storyline. I'm not sure why so many posters insist on talking about the old cast and wolverine being in it like these are done deals. With any luck there will be an XMFC2 panel at SDCC and then we'll finally get some solid answers. Until then I remain wearily optimistic that this is not the plot, that they're saving it for the third movie, for a possible X4 plot, or just using the title for a story that involves neither time travel nor the old cast.

That would probably be a horrible idea for them. The film is already being worked on. Rushing scripts is not good any way you look at it. I want DOFP but if thats not what they were planning then thats cool. Let Vaughn and Crew do what they want. You wouldnt have FC without them. They know whats best.

One of the reasons people are excited on here is cause for the first time they have quite some time to develop. Let them do whatever they are planning.

Rothman said there will be X Men announcements this summer. So SDCC is looking good.

I hope so. People want some certainty about what is being planned - and when.

Saying something is 'in development' never means anything. We need more details than that. We want to see that the studio is well organised and knows what is coming next.

It looks like Deadpool has slid on to the backburner, and it's especially obvious now that Ryan Reynolds has been (mis)cast in Highlander.

Perhaps in 2013. It's slated to be released in 2014, and The Wolverine before that, so I wouldn't expect First Class 2 to make an appearance this year. I wouldn't mind hearing something there, though.

This year could only have the producers, althout Matthew could attend, but not sure if that's Fox plan, since they release The Wolverine next year

In a new chat about the film, Vaughn threw around a few ideas regarding a possible sequel to the prequel. On how First Class 2 could open, Vaughn said: “I thought it would be fun to open with the Kennedy Assassination, and we reveal that the magic bullet was controlled by Magneto.” Continuing that a First Class 2 would not necessarily follow the traditional comic-book sequel route of adding more characters to its roster, Vaughn added: “We will only have one more new character. I won’t say who he… I won’t say who he or she is! But we will only be bringing one more new character in, because, I think, as Professor X is in a wheelchair, Magneto needs to have a nemesis he can fight with. Someone that will be his equal. I know who it is. It would be nice if I could say something, but I can’t, mate!

It would be f**** amazing if "his equal" ends being Polaris

that would bring some dimmensions to the character, both as the new x-men, as Magneto's biggest oponent, in a possible battle between Brotherhood and x-men, and as someone possible from his family.

Three whole dimenssions to just one character, that would give Matthew more than enough to develop her character, Eric, and the rest of the cast of First Class, with another political plot like the first one.

It's outrageous that Vaughn doesn't consider Charles "Magneto's equal" because he's in wheelchair. Stupid and so prejudiced it's not
even funny. Plus Vaughn's limited knowledge about the character is evident, as is his lack of interest in him.

He probably means someone that can fight with Erik body to body, and while he wears the helmet.

Charles cant fight with him directly, but manipulating other mutant's mind.

This doesnt mean he wont give Charles a great development in the sequel.

James McAvoy is one of the two centerpieces of this new series, so Matthew wont put him on the background for most of the movie, he will probably be one of the characters with more scenes, like happened on First Class.

We can only wait and see what Matthew brings this time around, now that he has more time to improve de script.
