Everyone is talking about what they want to see and don't want. How the costume is suppose to be. Glasses? Which villains should've been in there. The hair curl.
But for you on a solely personal reasoning...what makes a Superman film for you? What are the essentials you NEED to have. And what are some smaller tidbits, that you like to see just for your own viewing pleasure.

for me, the most important part is what Superman "stands for."
it's his strong morals and values. how he acts and how he behaves. his genuine desire to help people and inspire them. to be a symbol of hope. above all, Superman must be a symbol of hope, a shining light in the darkness.

I'm real old fashioned. I'd want a straight up Golden Age Superman in my film.

I think the most essential piece to Superman's character is that he is not one of us. Though he may try and want to be, he can never be human. He's on a different plateau than us, so we should be in awe of him.

What makes a Superman film for me?
Getting to see on screen, what I've been waiting 20 years for. Superman cutting loose in Michael Bay-esque "explody" action! A movie with rock solid performances under visionary direction from a well crafted script worthy of Christopher McQuarrie goes without saying. But what I want most is high octane superhero action that would put "Marvel's The Avengers" to shame. Superman needs to make his presence known like an 800 pound behemoth on the big screen!

Me too, i prefer Superman starting with few powers like in the golden age, and then developing his other powers.

I want for it to have a great amount of action, but what's more important for me is to be able to feel Superman's emotions. I want to see what makes him angry, what makes him cry, his struggles, his pain, his failures and his ambition to do what he does. I want to be able to see how everything he's been through and is going through affects his everyday life.
This is where the original Superman film failed for me. The first half is a bit emotional and pinpoints major parts in his life, yet after Clark becomes Superman, its like he's a completely different character. It doesn't fit together for and you loose a sense of who he really is as a character. Sure we know what he stands for and that he's a boyscout etc., but I want to see something more in depth. This is also a huge problem in most of his stories. Some of you may say that all of that what I'm talking about was already in the original film. Though there is a certain way emotions should be diplayed in a film. In the original film when you see Superman he's always smiling and having fun like he's "Mr. Perfect" which makes me think Superman believes it's recess and that he doesn't really take anything seriously. So when something emotional does happen, it's hard for me to take him serious. I see emotion, yet I don't feel it. A great example of showing emotions are hero films like Gladiator, Batman Begins, and Hancock. The emotions are constant and you never lose a sense of who the characters are.

To me Superman is the example of that person who strives to do the impossible, strives to do better. He is someone who comes from nothing and succeeds to the utmost degree by utilizing the brains, talent, skill that he was born with, and all because that is what he chooses to do. Also because of how the Kent's raised him. He is the Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, MLK, Ghandi, etc of the SH world, the one other SHs look to in awe. Like Ghandi said "be the change you want to see in the world". Well that is Superman. And that is what I want to see in MOS. A mature Superman facing impossible odds, but giving his all physically and emotionally. And the citizens of Metropolis and the world to be uplifted by it. Superman should be a symbol of hope, that type of galvanizing force that is unmistakable. I want there to be action but also alot of charm and heart. I want this to have strong iconic moments (and I don't mean poses or action moments, though I want those too), I don't want a generic SH film.

I'm doing a fan edit right now actually for fun. I've got Smallville, SR, and L&C moments being put together to create a single film.

I think the perfect Superman movie is the one that can find the balance between the duty/burden of being Superman, and the joy of helping others and providing inspiration and hope.

Not a whole lot, I only mentioned him because I'm not interested in seeing an actor try to copy or emulate his performance.

There are "things"... But I'm keeping an open mind and be surprised by the changes. Basically, my experience with BB.

I guess one of the most important things for me, especially in an origin story, is his reason for donning the costume.
It should be because he simply can't just watch people get hurt when he can do something about it. It should be because using his gifts, the things that made him feel like a freak his whole life, to do something amazing like saving a life, gives him a feeling of purpose. It should be because he CARES about the world and every single person in it, and he can see how desperately unjust some people's lives are just because of a minority of selfish and greedy power hungry people. It should be because he wants to fight to change it, because he believes in the good in people and that all hope is NOT lost and we can bring hope and justice back (a reality we all share ).The terrifying thing for me, is how easy it would be for them to miss that. If they have him brooding in Alaska, with no intention of ever coming out of exile, and then only donning the costume as a reaction to Zod or because his hologram father told him to... then they'll have completely missed a huge part of what makes Superman a stronger hero than all the others. I really really hope that's not the case though. I mean, with BB and TDK, they managed to find the balance. Yes, Bruce's parent's death sent him on a journey to understand WHY it happened, what the criminal world is really all about etc. But his intentions are NOT just revenge. He is trying to change Gotham because he believes in the good in people just as his father did, and he thinks the city is worth fighting for. Let's hope some of that transfers over into this script

Seeing him perform his first save as a young clark while using his superpowers for the first time,
Donning the suit for the first time, Seeing a proper shirt rip done with the score blairing like a train horn in the background..if anything needs to be slo-mo, its the shirt rip..show each button popping off in a slo mo orgy for all I care, we deserve it.... Seeing him and a villain go toe to toe in a large city with lots of damage and destruction.. Seeing Clark actually be a damn good reporter..... Did I mention a proper shirt rip.....( darn you singer )

A movie with a character that can be larger than life, and yet at the same time be grounded. We saw way too much earnestness in the Reeve films and SR. I wanna see Superman do some Superman-y stuff. Take some cues from All-Star Superman, Snyder. That's what I want.

At least two of the main characters must die (not including the villains). That is the first essential maker.
