Amazing Spider-Man.
Simply fantastic. Garfield is great, lizard rocks as a villain and the action is fun. Batman has a hard time topping this imo. |

SAFE
Some of my friends decided to enter the movies while we were out yesterday, didn't want to enter theater cause I still dislike the experience, today's experience definitely did not change my thought in that matter, didn't feel like entering a horror movie nor to watch a Tim Burton film -I like some of his films, and completely adore Batman, but not much else- so since The Hunger Games wasn't showing I decided we should enter a Statham movie, we agreed First 10 minutes were bland, I thought I'd give the movie a 5/10 at start, as the movie went on there were some missed plots like the Russian gang fate and the governor's situation, but most of it did not disappoint me, nor my friends. Easy 7.5/10 |

The Amazing Spider-Man.
7/10. It felt a bit off to me, but I think that was just because it's essentially a pseudo-remake of SM1.

![]() Second viewing, this time with the whole family. I never really cared much for Anderson's movies, but this one definitely gets 10/10.

The Amazing Spider-Man. 8/10 or a B. I was expecting to like it, but still be loyal to Raimi's version, but this ended up not being the case. I actually liked this version more, and particularly, liked Garfield, Stone, Leary and Sheen in this (favorite scene was when Uncle Ben let's Gwen know that Peter has her picture on his computer. Funny)

The sad thing is that the film had a perfect alignment of talent to work. Nicolas Cage playing a demon biker with a flaming skull, under the direction of the guys who made Crank, with support by Idris Elba, one of the most likable actors on the planet.
They just needed a script.

At least Nic Cage had a few moments of madness that reminded me of some of his past characters like in the movie Deadfall and Bad Lieutenant.

The interrogation scene in the nightclub had me rolling. I though the film was turning around for the better.

![]() I got the feeling that this initially wanted to explore some interesting themes, but it turned out a mess. The story is dull, sleazy and half cooked, and Woods doesn't seem to know exactly what his character is meant to be, at times he comes off like an earnest cop wanting justice, at others he comes off like a creepy slimebag. The film has some hilarious holes of logic as well, especially early on when Woods puts about 6 bullets in a guy who might have done something, in the middle of a street, and then just asks his partner to sort the paperwork out while he takes the woman the dead guy had picked up at a bar, home to bang. ![]() Woods produced so I'm guessing he saw something in the script that didn't make the final product, or he's crap at picking scripts. 5/10

Haywire
I can definitely see the love for it. The story wasn't anything beyond a typical action flick, badass spy gets betrayed, wants revenge, but that's all it needed to be. I love the fighting, this is how you film a fight to make it look like you're actually there, no score, muted sound effects, shot from a distance, with well placed cuts. The rest of the action was fantastic for the sole reason that Soderbergh used the action sequences as a sandbox to mess around with camera placement, visual and sound editing, colours, the lot. The performances where excellent all around, no surprise from this cast, but Channing Tatum surprised the hell out of me, really liked his work here. Fassbender basically treated it as an audition tape for Bond. Michael Douglas added class to a role that could've been boring. Banderas' facial expressions where gold. In another film Ewan McGreggor's character could've been a good protagonist, a nerd with a goofy haircut who is a total badass. Bill Paxton, back home where he belongs, in action cinema. The "Keep your eyes open, dad", "I haven't shut them since you where born" bit was so freaking awesome, it was such a brilliant exchange, with that pure Paxton delivery. Awesome.

Enjoyed this and found it much funnier than I expected. Tons of great pop culture references and my crowd laughed a lot. Though I think Seth's comedy suits animation like Family Guy better, it worked pretty well here. |
