I just hope with this new movie they havent the marketing too late with this movie, I mean we are only 3 months away from it coming out and we only just got our first trailer. Hopefully the marketing will ramp right up now.
Stallone definately has the acting chops to have pulled off a dark version, but I think the studio would have never allowed it, shame, it had potential.

Well, I personally thought the film was pretty terrible, but the funny thing is that it came out against the first Schumacher Batman film, which also sucked and was every bit as cheesy and fake looking as Dredd. Yet, that movie made a ton of money and people loved it for some reason. Maybe it's just name recognition, but I personally think that movie was even worse than Dredd.

Batman Forever was...ok.
There is a similarity to my post earlier between these two. I believe Val Kilmer, at that time, could have made a darker Batman if the script called for it. |

If you combined the huge budget, fantastic sets, amazing fx and very respectable supporting cast from the Stallone movie with this movie and then factored in Judge Death, we'd pretty much have a perfect Dredd movie.

I only realized Ian Dury of the Blockheads was in the Stallone Judge Dredd movie.
Andy Serkis of Lord Of The Rings fame did a awesome job playing Dury in his biopic

Screenwriter Alex Garland said at the Dredd pannel at the London Film and Comic Con yesterday that DREDD will need to make at least $50 million at the North American box office in order to make a sequel a possibility.
His second Dredd movie would take Judge Dredd to the Cursed Earth and the third would have the Dark Judges as the villains.

Lets hope we get that trilogy then, $50 million isnt that much at the BO these days but with the movie not having any stars and the marketing starting late it could be a tall order, lets hope the movie opens at around $30 million as if it does I think we can safely say sequel.

Yup,
Still hopeful of a Doug Jones Judge Death [or a 'DJJD', if you will ] in the sequel too.

Gonna have to deeply disagree with that. Solomon Kane should *not* be about a personal quest of spiritual redemption.

the trailer was terrible, and that's usually the best part of most films today.

Yeah, the twitter comments are a positive sign.
Then, again... I remember a site posting a bunch of positive tweets after an advanced screening of Green Lantern...

Reactions sound good.
Empire Magazine/BBC Film critic Chris Hewitt liked it and his got good taste for these types of movies.
