Funny there's all this talk about Spider-Man 3 right now - I mean, it makes sense because of The Amazing Spider-Man having opened last week, but also, the podcast "How Did This Get Made?" is doing their next episode about Spider-Man 3. I don't think it's as bad as to deserve that ('though I do think it's bad), but that is a fun podcast.

Hmmm... Well, you might have a point there. But trying to figure out which one of those threequels is the best (or the least sh**ty) is a bit of an arduous task. Seriously, I don't even know how to rank them because not only are they all terrible movies, but they each have at least one component that irritates me so much it makes it tough to rank any of them above ANYTHING, even each other:
X3 - the emo mutant battle at the end, Vinnie Jones' awful Juggernaut, terrible handling of Cyclops (again) and Phoenix/Jean Grey, the fact that Kelsey Grammer was in it, etc. SM3 - all the reasons I mentioned in a previous post, plus Kirsten Dunst singing. Blade Trinity - the worst depiction of Dracula since Gerard Butler's Michael Hutchence version in Dracula 2000 Batman Forever - NIPPLES NIPPLES NIPPLES, Tommy Lee Jones ruining Two-Face, Val Kilmer's lisp (I'M BATHMAN!), Chris O'Donnell Superman 3 - F**king Richard Pryor

X3 and SM3. The biggest punches to my gut in a cinema that I can rememember for a long long time. But SM3 is better. At least it had some brief moments where it rose above it's mediocrity. I can't say that for X3.

I kind of liked Blade Trinity. It's not good, but unlike X-Men 3 and Spider-Man 3, Trinity didn't have parts that were so bad I didn't enjoy it. The villain and Blade's associates weren't as good as the first two movies, but they were decently entertaining. Maybe it's just because I don't have much attachment to vampires or the Blade characters in the way I do Spider-Man, X-Men, etc., but nothing about Trinity struck me as worse than mediocre.

Spider-Man ware ally had the potential to be very TDK-esque in terms of plot structure, but Raimi seemed to make some bad choices out of nowhere, and it all fell apart in the editing room.
X3 is just irrehensable. It felt more like a cobbled together grouping of action scenes than a legitimate movie. Batman Forever is a classic. Their intentions were off, of course, but you could actually tell it was made by professionals.

I have the dancing scene for SM3, which is the spider equivalent of the bat-credit card. Only longer. Quote:

In its own tone, it was fine. Except for Two-Face, that was a unredeemable miss. |

I don't think that Gigli is that bad of a film. There are WORSE films to bash above Gigli like: Beast of Yucca Flats, Battlefield Earth, Inspector Gadget The live action film, Superman 4 and so on.

Personally, I'd say everything involving the villains was a mess. But there was a point to it; Schumacher was going for a tongue-in-cheek homage to 60s Batman. Now, that approach has both its positives, and very much has its negatives overall, but the overall conceptual premise - and more importantly, the technical filmmaking aspects of the movie - are extremely strong.

Well, the new film is pretty dark, even though the carjacker scene is the funniest scene in any Spider-Man movie.

I don't know how anyone can defend Batman Forever. The movie was treated like a big f**king joke. Everything looked cheap and completely fake (I thought this the first time I saw it, when I was about 14 years old), the acting by EVERYONE was terrible, the story was ridiculous...
I guess Schumacher actually did himself a favor when he made Batman & Robin. By making that movie--which still arguably reigns supreme as the sh**tiest superhero movie of all time--he managed to make people forget that he actually made two sh**ty superhero movies.

I guess this is an unpopular opinion of mine, I don't think X3 is a bad movie. Yeah, they ****ed with the characters and thats a bummer, but as far as a film goes it's not bad IMHO.

I can't stand the pre Nolan Bat movies.
It ranges from 'meh' for Bat '89 to outright hate for B&R. Four movies and I was engaged TWO TIMES; 1. The 'let's get nuts' scene 2. The bit where they explore the Bruce/Batman psyche in Batman Forever Two scenes in FOUR movies. Those movies are nowhere near my Blu ray collection. Although I absolutely LOVE the new ASM movie I still hold the Raimi movie dear and wont be getting rid of those movies (even SM3 which has the Sandman birth scene). For another unpopular opinion I have an idea of what I think Batman should be (from my reading of the comics) if I were to give my ideal for Batman a perfect 10 then Nolan has only acheived a '7'. Batman can be done better on screen imho (for example his detective skills can be improved as can his fighting skills in costume). If I were to give my ideal for Spider-Man a perfect 10 then Raimi achieved a '6' (I thought his spider-man persona was all wrong) and Webb has acheived a '8'. |

I liked how Val Kilmer still managed to radiate badass in spite of having nipples on his Batsuit. I really want to watch Batman Forever again because I never really formed a definite opinion about it.

I really like what Nolan has done with Batman but I really want to see Batman solve crime like a true detective, that's why I was disappointed Riddler wasn't the villian for TDKR. I wanted to see a 'Se7en' type movie with clues and Batman solving those clues.
As for Batman fighting style I want a movie where the camera is pulled back so you can see what the **** is going on and I want to see the foremost martial artist on the planet taken down criminals with pure skill rather than elbows to the face. Part of me will be sad when Nolan is gone and part of me (maybe a small part admitedly) is saying good riddence. |
