You use ”plot devices” to develop the character which was done so well in ASM.
Parker is demoralized by a humiliating defeat by a villain who rendered his webbing useless. You have Parker ignore Aunt May's request to clean her attic thinking defeating the villain is much more important. You show Parker studying surveillance footage of the battle over and over brainstorming to no avail. He gives in to Aunt May's request reluctantly and while in the attic spills over a chemical that hardens and realizes the right compound. Then you show Parker kiss Aunt May on the cheek and rush out the house. Fustrated Aunt May, certain that Peter left without cleaning checks the basement and it's perfect. Spider-man has a showdown with the villain but he has large silver bracelets over his webshooters. Once it looks like the villain has the upperhand Parker presses a switch on the bracelet that alters his web formula and wins. Now that's just a basic example off the top of my head. Heroes adapt all the time in movies and those adaptations can always be considered empty plot devices but it comes down to execution whether it develops the character it or not.

So funny.
I remember back in 2001, when this site first started up it was called "Spider-man-Hype". And this was THE most inflamatory topic that was being argued about on the message boards. And now, over 10 years later.... I was siding with most at the time. The idea of organic web shooters seemed to violate holy spider-lore. But after I saw the movie, I was completely turned around on the topic. I realized that out of all the fantasy elements in the Spider-man story, the mechanical web shooters were the thing that had always bothered me. I was completely converted. And I think I still feel the same way.

I agree. I like the new Amazing Spider-Man film more than the others, but I personally think the organic webshooters are the single best thing Raimi and co thought of.
Spinning web is the single most defining trait of a spider. Not being able to move fast or crawl up walls. While its more comic accurate, I don't even feel like the mechanical webshooters added much of anything to ASM. He didn't even create the actual web, he stole it from oscorp and just created a devise to shoot it out of. In this new series, it's not a matter of him showing intelligence by changing the web formula to help him with advisaries because it's not his invention. He's now just got a hindrance on his hand because now he must regularly steal web from oscorp.

I personally don't like organic web shooters because spiders spin webs, they dont fire them at their asses, and also because mechs show Parker's intelligence. Just my opinion

I love the fact that Toby didn't make a device to be Spiderman for him.

Lol, no...but that Toby guy thinks it was the best thing that Raimi's Peter didn't have a webshooter. It's nice if you like organic webbing, but mechanical webshooters is perfectly fine as well.

I prefer Mechanical Web-shooters over organic, peter being able to construct his own web-shooters and made his own webbing really showed how smart he is. but i eventually got over the fact that not every thing is going to be perfect .
