You definitely need to get the first Deadpool series, initially written by Joe Kelly. It's a 69 issue run. With two Annuals I believe. And then the Cable & Deadpool Series, written by Fabian Nicieza. Which is a 50 issue run.

Don't worry about the Deadpool & Cable Artwork, Liefeld only does some covers. Anyway, those two Series are the Deadpool must-reads. Then there are so many other Minis, One-shots, Series, I kinda lost track of. Maybe the others can help you there.

*edit*

Found this on a Facebook page. Someone made the effort to make 'A newbie’s guide to Deadpool', for everyone that's new to the character.

If you want to read something modern for Deadpool, just go to his main series, and if you get "Deadpool: Suicide Kings" it will be extra fun
You don't need to read X-Men stuff to dig into him, maybe X-Force with Psyloke Wolverine

What books should I pick up to start a Deadpool collection...
Deadpool debuted in New Mutants but I never really considered him an X-man character. He's always had loose ties to the X-franchise. His book with Cable a few years back and current role in X-force is the most X-affiliated he's been. You dont really need to know much about the X-men to get itno him

Like already said, read the first series and Cable & Deadpool. There's some meaningful stories there. Really great stuff.
Deadpool's arc where he is supposed to choose to fight or to let go an alien that brings eternal peace to the worlds he visits was one of the greatest arcs I read in comics.

If you wanna start with a funny issue, then do it with Deadpool #11:
Spoiler!!! Click to Read!:

I never laughed so hard reading a comic book as I did with this issue. Deadpool goes back in time to the events of Spider-Man #47, back in the 60's. He desguise himself as Peter and has to put up with the slang of that time without punching anyone in the face, while being shocked with Harry's haircut. It's so damn funny.

Thank you all so much People are always super friendly and ready to help out on this forum.

I'll pick up the Deadpool classics and Cable and Deadpool collections.

I hope the Ryan Reynolds Deadpool project gets made from what I know of the character he seems a perfect fit.

I always liked the Gail Simone run on Deadpool as well as the Agent X series (which strictly speaking isn't a Deadpool series, but he turns up at the end of it and is referenced at times beforehand).

Sandi believed Nijo was Deadpool at the start, so I will say it technically qualifies

Yeah, plus I think Marvel were trying to replace Deadpool with Agent X because of possible rights issues or something. They had to name Cable 'Soldier X' or something like that to keep him going.

Also, here's a couple of articles from Game Informer. It appears Way is writing the game.

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/a...nt-author.aspx

....and they've given their "Four rules for making a Deadpool game"

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/a...pool-game.aspx

So Way is writing eh? Had a feeling that may be the case. Way will for sure try to get all his created characters in there. Explains the Hit Monkey thing. I have a feeling this lowers the chances of seeing alot Pre Way Deadpool characters now. He does seem to like including Bob and Taskmaster, so they should be a definite.

I hope if Hit Monkey makes it then they make a few good Hitman/47 jokes and references. I haven't read the actual comics with Hit Monkey in them, but I've seen a few of the covers and he does seem like he may be somewhat inspired by 47 if not an outright parody.

If Bob doesn't make it, then I will consider this game an instant failure.

Actually, that would be kind of funny. I almost want some guest characters just so Deadpool can say something about it.

She's probably a NPC. But I hope she's there with Deadpool in some of the missions.

maybe if Psylocke proves popular enough in the game, they can release some DLC missions for her.

also, have they said when this game will be coming out?
