![]() The Dark Knight Rises This took my breath away, It's a Batman film that has a fitting closure to it's arch. I saw this in IMAX, which... holy sh** it blew me away. I've seen films shot limited scenes in IMAX but this was just grand. Acting wise everyone pretty much nailed it, I actually love seeing this version of Bale as a broken Bruce Wayne. Hathaway was oozing with charisma just like Tom Hardy's Bane. Bane was frightening to see and the fight sequences was astounding for a Nolan film. I do have to admit the beginning of the film (minus the prologue) felt off to me because it felt like it was moving too fast and a lot of info was being said (could be the editing). Once it gets to near the halfway point it found it's pacing and from then on it was golden. The ending was so well done, I was literally breathless for those last 10 or so minutes. Everything I wanted for this series came true (in one form or another). Kudos Nolan, you've done it. 10/10 Also this was my reaction leaving the theater:

Saw TDKR.
Overall I liked it a lot, but I had gripes. Spoilers... I black out the major ones, but there are still unblacked out minor ones. So you should scroll past this post if you haven't seen it. . . . 1) Really wanted to love Bane and before I saw it I expected people were overreacting about the voice thing. But it was hard to hear. Mainly because the audio of his voice seemed to be jacked up to impossibly high decibels. It would have been better if they had just left it alone, instead of overreacting. It was never the volume that was the problem. I still thought he was an awesome character and Hardy is one of my favorite new actors, but was his Bane as memorable as Ledger's Joker or even Hathaway's Catwoman? Sadly no. 2) One moment seemed REALLY out of character when Bruce turned on Alfred after he found out he lied about Rachel's letter. I thought that was very petty of him after Alfred had raised him and saved his life multiple times. It didn't make sense that he was suddenly ready to cut him off. Maybe the most out-of-character moment for Bruce from the whole trilogy. This is directly related to my next gripe... 3) No Alfred for the second half of the movie (save the very end). 4) How did Bruce get back to Gotham after climbing out of the hole-prison in the middle of Whereveristan (Tibet?). Huge plot-hole. 5) No mention of Joker? Not even to explain his absence after Bane liberated the whole prison system in Gotham? I made my own explanation that he was in the SuperMAX federal prison outside of Gotham, since he was an extra-special case, but that wasn't really satisfying. I completely understand Nolan doesn't want to appear as if he's exploiting Ledger's performance and memory, but an off-the-cuff comment explaining a character's glaring absence is not the same as inserting unused footage of him in the film. 6) A brace cures Bruce's gimp leg? How come he didn't wear that brace years ago? And is he wearing that brace when he's stuck inside Bane's hell prison? Overall my gripes are fairly minor (except the Bane audio, which I do think they messed up on). There's too much stuff I enjoyed, but for a start.... 1) Miranda Tate's twist when she plunges a knife into Bats... I had suspected she was Talia, but I didn't see the twist coming in THAT way... that was a heart-dropping moment. 2) Bane "breaking" (okay, not quite) Bat's back just like in the comic. It was eerie how much it looked like the panel in 'Knightfall.' 3) I think I'm one of the few people who really dug the prison montage (despite the aforementioned huge plot-holes associated with it). 4) A scene I thought I'd hate, but ended up loving was the football field (and every major building and bridge) simultaneously blowing up. Then a public execution and announcement by Bane. That was awesome. 5) Anne Hathaway's Catwoman. Her Catwoman is to Pfieffer's what Ledger's Joker was to Nicholson's. Nuff said. 6) Anything with Alfred, Gordon and Fox. The triage of old kickass guys. 7) John Blake and the reveal at the end that he's Robin (but it would have been better if they revealed his real name was Richard Grayson or Tim Drake). 8) Despite my gripes about the voice, I did enjoy Hardy's Bane. When I did hear his lines they were chilling. And he had a menacing presence whenever he appeared. 9) Scarecrow and the show trials. 10) How Batman ends. 11) Ras al Ghul flashback. 12) Batplane. Ton of other stuff. Overall I'd give it an 8.5 out of 10. Not as good as TDK, but what comic movie is?

Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) -- 3/5
The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) -- 2.5/5 Finally another decent Bond movie... the first one since Goldfinger, actually. The Man Who Would Be King (1975) -- 3/5 The Great Dictator (1940) -- 4/5 Only a 4? I must be crazy, right? Well but that's how much I liked it. Adenoid Hynkel is probably one of my favorite movie characters ever though. Every scene he was in had me laughing in tears. Superman The Movie (1978)
It's one of my favorites, starting as an off-beat romantic comedy with a sci-fi MacGuffin that gradually changes into a horror film as it goes along with excellent performances from Jeff Goldblum, Geena Davis and Jon Getz. Highly recommended, especially for those curious about legendary sci-fi horror director David Cronenberg.
