I'm pretty sure this small town is supposed to be, in the story, in eastern Tennessee, close to Chattanooga. I'm wondering if one of Tony's super-battles wound up doing some collateral damage that killed an innocent kid bystander, and now Tony is doing some grieving and soul-searching....?

It is supposed to be Chattanooga. I'm not quite sure why our local government wasn't approached to actually film here. Maybe it's a tax incentive thing or something. So apparently, they are going to have some of our cop cars and other Hamilton County/Chattanooga things sent to NC. Oh how I wish they would have just let them have whatever they wanted. Filming Iron Man 3 would have brought SO much money here. Not to mention it would have been extremely exciting.

No, the crater is supposed to be in Chattanooga, TN.
Whoever/whatever made the crater there apparently killed at least one person there, apparently at least one child (again, look at all the teddy bears and kiddie type memorials there). Probably accidental collateral damage rather than anything deliberate, but it's still speculative right now.

If Black doesn't take his ass or the cast to China, the whole "co-production" deal falls through, and you can kiss IM3's China audience, premieres, etc. goodbye.

Marvel promised them *directly* that the cast and crew would shoot in China. Roughly half of the movie HAS to be shot there to be classified as an actual co-production, as Marvel promised.

If Black half-asses it by just shooting stock "plate" scenes there to paste into greenscreen backgrounds, as he indicated at SDCC, then this movie has just officially gone to hell in a handbasket.

That's a very interesting story cherokeesam and they even got the quote from my question to Shane Black from the press conference in there. This quote was sort of confusing though:

The office of Dan MINTZ, head of DMG and executive producer of the film, said: "The reports out there are not true; he is now shooting in the US."

OK so . . . I'm taking this as executive producer of IRON MAN 3 and head of China's DMG is saying the "reports out there are not true" meaning that the reports of them shooting half the movie in China are not true and Shane Black is shooting in the US and he will not be shooting in China? So it seems the head of DMG and executive producer of the movie is both aware and OK with this? Not sure it's just so very weird.

Just seems odd that they made this big announcement of it being a Chinese co-production and Shane Black and Feige are basically like "we are just doing some second unit plates there, that's it."

OK now to be clear the original reports I read on the announcement didn't indicate that would be be bringing the main cast to shoot there only that Disney entered in a co-production deal with DMG and DMG had the rights to distribute the movie in China and also supervise the Chinese production elements. But it didn't say how much they were investing into the movie.

In that report, it still lists the Mandarin as an evil Chinese-British villain. Is that actually the case in the movie or has his background been changed? Also, it says that China may have to excise certain problematic Chinese elements such as in Men in Black 3 where a chinese restaurant was removed (don't know why that's problematic). If they do that with IM3 and remove the Mandarin completely, the entire plot would fall apart.

I wonder how they watch movies like Dr No? Is the whole of the ending missing for them? Maybe after Bond gets caught in the swamp with Ursula Andress and that dragon tank comes along, the movie ends?

I like that armor a lot more than the Comic Con version. Still wish there wasn't quite so much gold, but overall it looks pretty cool.

That concept art looks a lot nicer than the actal suit they showed at SDCC. I'm still hoping they change from this suit to another half-way through the film, though.

i wonder if making him a citizen of hong kong born under british rule would make a difference to the chinese.
