Hehe, but then you'd have to call him The Cantonese.

I know the movie isn't coming out for months to come, but the news and rumors keep piling up. Just saw a new Iron Man 3 Rumors about how Iron Man and War Machine are set to have a lot of tension in the upcoming movie...
I liked Don Cheadle in the second Iron Man...but is he about to emerge as a main character in Iron Man 3? Curious to know your guys' thoughts on this topic... Last edited by im3rumors; 07-27-2012 at 10:00 AM. Reason: misspelled word |

I just rewatched Kiss, Kiss, Bang Bang and I really hope Black decides to re-collaborate with John Ottman for the IM3 score.

well he could rebel against this anglo corrupted city by imbuing himself in ancient chinese regalia. it's weird being english and getting in a possible mandarin's shoes.

No. You are making the mistake of thinking that The Mandarin is a name rooted in race. That's never been true anymore than it's rooted in him being an orange. Mandarin has several definitions. Given his social darwinian leanings, Elitist is the most logical meaning of his name. It's certainly not race, as the character has always been half British and half ethnic Mongol. He's not an ethnic Han aka mandarin. |

elitist actually refers to those that prop up those who they think are the elite rather than those than consider themselves the elite. and i hate the phrase social darwinism because it is a straw man of a theory in which the best virtues of mankind can make a person part of the fittest to survive. in fact survival of the fittest is a misnomer, it is survival of the fit enough.
but i do agree with your meaning.

He wouldn't be called the Cantonese, because "Mandarin" in the character's case doesn't refer to some Chinese dialect dependent on a particular region of China anymore than it refers to some kind of small orange. It's a title which, if anything, probably derives from these high ranking Chinese officials called Mandarins.

None of the villians have been referred to by their comic book names in the movie. I'm betting he will be referred to as Tem Borjigin, which was his name in the latest incarnation in the comics, and also is an alternate name for Genghis Khan.

That would sound like John Henry Irons become the character "Steel". Clementine Satsuma becomes the Mandarin?

Iron Man aside, I'd love it if they ever did make a Centurions movie. Or Bionic Six.

This kinda feels like it might be the first movie where they just call the villain by his code name, in this case Mandarin, without using a "civilian" name

It's amazing, I figured someone would have bootlegged the video from Comic-con on the web, but they must have been Johnny on the spot with security, because it's nowhere to be found.
