They just wouldn't be as dominant. The Women's side would have to be under 23 as well......I think.

If this is going to be an NBA rule and not a USOC one, it will affect other countries too.
Personally, I think it should be an over 38 rule. Make the old timers play. |

If its an NBA rule its going to affect USA, France, Argentina, Spain and Brazil.
One benefit of the Olympics on NBC is that NBC uses the iconic Olympic theme. If the Olympics were on Fox, they would dump that theme for the NFL theme, causing major outrage.

The media is hyping up Track athlete Lolo Jones as the face of Team USA, when that is absolutely 100% not true. She's not even the most famous athlete Team USA has (that belongs to the Men's Basketball Team and Tennis Star Serena Williams). Then again, the Men's Basketball Team and Williams do not need the hype.

i dont think it would be fair that NBA players can't play in the olympics. they should be able to represent their countries respectively. the olympics is supposed to have the best athletes from each country

The Olympics is supposed to be the best AMATEUR athletes from each country, but that bridge was crossed a long time ago.

Plus, having the NBA players present in the Olympics gives NBC more time to promote the lesser known athletes in the other sports.
Basketball is the sport least promoted by NBC during the Olympics due to the fact that we already see these guys 82 games a year and we know all about them. It's similar to the Winter Olympics in that hockey doesn't need that much promotion due to the presence of NHL players.

Tennis is currently littered with some of the world's best players, including two of the World's top ranked male tennis players in Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, playing on very familiar grounds at Wimbledon.

Also, the US men's gymnastics team absolutely faltered today, with basically no chance for a team medal. |

I have been watching the live feed and it's sad. Though, I'm still blown away by Weiber missing AA. I love and hate the new rules...

yes. but other professional athletes compete in other sports, to simply negate the basketball team isn't fair when other pros are competing elsewhere

US finishes 6th with China, Japan, and GB on the podium. They just choked at the worst time imaginable. Hopefully the women don't follow suit tomorrow.

I know, but I don't think they should be competing in the other sports either.

The women should do better. They do have a very strong squad. Just a damn shame what happened to Weiber. She was scored very low on beam.

i think the top scores should qualify, regardless of what country they represent. its a shame that Weiber was what? top 10 overall easily, but can't compete because only two per country. that means someone who scored lower gets in just due to being not from a country with the max number of representatives

The US got 2 more golds with Matt Grevers and Missy Franklin winning their respective 100-m backstrokes. Matt Thoman won silver in the men's 100-m backstroke. Ryan Lochte disappoints again by not even getting a medal in the 200-m freestyle, finishing 4th. So much for him being the heir apparent to Phelps.
