Hello everybody.
Iīve seen the Avengers and i loved it. But i loved it mainly because of the light spirit of the movie, a couple of good lines and the great action scenes. Now, to me, The Avengers follows the same formula of most super hero movies. The plot is very, very basic, and it doesnīt offer many surprises. To me, the difference between The Avengers and other Super hero movies is that it executes this "oversimplistic" formula better than the other, and can definitely be very, very enjoying. But not enjoying to the point of making me think "wow, i just watched a masterpiece", but more like "wow, it was great fun. Now letīs move on". I think The Avengers is what it is supposed to be, and thatīs fine. But iīm a guy who really appreciate great stories and great character development, so i kindda had an empty feeling from watching The Avengers, although i enjoyed it. I donīt give it 9/10 like most, but rather something like 7.5/10. I think it lacked a much better story. Now, going to the question: To a guy like me, who gives a lot of value to the quality of a plot and likes great character development, do you think TDKR will be more satisfying for me? I know many of you will find my question a little silly; if thatīs the case, donīt answer. But if you really understand what iīm trying to say, then iīll appreciate your opinion. |

I think what your saying is "I shall take the opportunity to make broad derogatory remarks about Avengers while hiding behind the cover of asking for advice." But I will answer your question: no, you will not like TDKR, because it doesn't have as good of character development as Avengers. This is not a mark against TDKR, however, because Avengers has excellent character development, done with a subtle hand that expects the viewer to pay attention to detail, and watch how characters interact with each other.

My response will be the more diplomatic, many people on these forums have expressed similar feelings to you and cited TDKR as the preferred film so perhaps. Nobody can really tell you how satisfying you'll find any film though based on vague ideas about what you like.

The Avengers was fun and enjoyable but it doesn't leave me with such an experience that I'm analyzing the ramifications of why the Avengers don't get along, or why Thor can't get along with Loki, c'mon it's just a comic book movie.TDKR was not just a good superhero movie but a very good movie in itself.

The Avengers was fun and the action was really good but it didn't really have depth. The Dark Knight Rises was good but I didn't have fun watching it. It was too serious and dark.

I loved the Avengers more than The Dark Knight Rises. You might enjoy the drama in Dark Knight Rises more but the plot was stretched out to long. I think Road to Perdition was better for a dark, noiresque film. Go ahead and watch Dark Knight Rises. It's the last part of the trilogy after all.

The second achievement is when the sword exists in one's heart. When absent from one's hand one can strike an enemy at paces even with bare hands. Swordsmanship's ultimate achievement is the absence of the sword in both hand and heart. The swordsman is at peace with the rest of the world. He vows not to kill. |

Based on what you've said, you will like The Dark Knight Rises better. I can't say much without spoiling it for you, but most of the people that I know with the same criticisms of The Avengers as you (including myself) did prefer TDKR. The plot and characters are definitely stronger in TDKR.

They're two totally different movies. I agree with the previous poster, based on what you've stated, you'll like TDKR more.
They're both good movies. (Avengers is still my favorite movie, edging TDK by a hair . BB and TDKR fall in line behind it )

I think Avengers benefits from being the (first) culmination of the whole Marvel movie mythos, while simultaneously only being the first of many to come. Whereas with TDKR it's basically the end of the Nolanverse (probably) and is a slightly disappointing sequel to the somewhat superior The Dark Knight. As such any of its faults are going to be more glaring to people.
There's also, as you said, a difference in tone. Avengers is fun and bright, TDKR is darker and gloomier and more serious. That said, fans of the previous films will probably like it, as I did. Of course, that almost begs the question: did you see the first two Nolan Batman films? You're not going to understand the plot on the same level as someone who has if you haven't. |

Avengers: Better action and character personality/development. TDKR: Better plot. I go to movies for characters not plots so me liking the Avengers better was no surprise to me.
