He won for Crazy Heart, the year before. Colin Firth won for The King's Speech in 2010.

Bridges was good in True Grit, but Firth really did deserve his award. Besides, a year prior Bridges got for Crazy Heart which was an amazing performance as well.

now that I'm remembering it, that was a tough year, there were a lot of movies I felt deserved the award, 127 hours, social network, black swan. I was very conflicted, Luckily I didn't have to choose lol, because the one film I didn't see won.

I saw Munich the other day and had to turn it off after like 30 minutes. What a piece of self-indulgent pretentious bore fest, I cannot see why people everywhere say it is a great movie.

I liked, but didn't love Munich.
I think it was mainly for its cinematography and Eric Bana's performance.

I don't like any of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, not even the first one.

Without a Charlie Kauffman script to work from, Michel Gondry is nothing special. Just a flashy music video director with a cheap bag of tricks.
A visionary, he aint. |

Not to me it doesn't.
I hated that movie. One of the most pretentious, utterly pointless films ever made. (And I never use the word pretentious!) |

Pre-1990 John Carpenter is one of my all-time favourite directors. Just awesome movie after awesome movie.
Once the 80's were over though, so was his talent apparently. I've never seen a director lose it so badly... |

I have to agree. Haven't really seen anything recent from him that was any kind of decent.

Halloween -> Not very long, but feels like 3 hours. Nothing happens. Looks outdated.
Escape from New York -> No tension, sloppy directed action, ridicoulus scenario. The Thing -> Boring scenario, only relies on tension between characters, bad FX. Boring crap. Nuff said. Yeah, that is your precious John Carpenter. |

Definitely. The Ward was okay, but it's only okay compared to all of his other post-1990 stuff. As a standalone movie, it was still pretty tepid stuff.

Oh, how terrible. Shame on them for using that in a movie about the characters.
